Graphics, Serial Number and start errors

All, I was having the problem where I could not run ET on my laptop with an Intel Chip just as many of you. After following through many different threads on here, I got it to work. I thought I'd post my sequence of errors and steps to try to help anyone in the future.

After installing, I started the game and got the video card error about shading.
I installed the current version of 3d Analyzer and tried to start the UFO_ET.exe which produced the serial error.
Next, I used the 3d analyzer to start autorun. This opened the menu but hitting run or any other button would do nothing.
Finally, I installed the previous version of 3d analyzer. This time, the menu started and the game ran. (Performance is even good)
My issue now resolved and hopefully this will help someone else.
