... it's astounding how much this game has been improved in just a week.

With the comprehensive SageMod .03, it's like a whole new game. Just being able to zoom in and out alone makes the whole game 1000% better - I like to play with a far view so I can see the big picture. Thanks to all of you whose work was included in this!

Heck, on the official forums, there is even somebody working on basically rewriting the combat UI - he already has functioning stand/kneel and move up/down buttons, and is on the verge of adding an entire 'reserve AP' button suite.

Amazing.

I wonder how the devs feel about their game being dug through and rewritten to such a degree.

Then again, if they listened to their fans, maybe they wouldn't have to worry about it. :-p

Actually, one of the Devs, Galfar, has asked the modders if they don't mind having their mods included in the patch [:D]
Gen. Montgomery: "Your men don't salute much."
Gen. Freyberg: "Well, if you wave at them they'll usually wave back."

Thats great news! I love how the devs have become very active in their forums with all the modders and bugs that have been found.  It shows me that they are determined to make a great game even better and are willing to listen to the community.  You don't see that ever with big studios.  In fact, the only other game that I have seen so much dev/user interaction is with Sword of the Stars.  Great game btw.  Chaos Concepts has gain a lot of respect from me this past week and I look forward to seeing how this game will evolve in the future.

I agree - I must admit I was sceptical during the "build up" to the release with all the discussion about death vs no-death, hiring troops and so on, but I am also more than ready to admit I am ready to stop being a sceptic and instead congratulate everyone involved. This seems like a great game, and the modding capabilities seem to ensure endless variations = looong lifetime and hours of fun playing....

I agree. The death vs. no death issue really concerned me earlu on. But its turned into a non-issue for me. Certainly there is no lack of tension during the ground missions. There are no cakewalks in this game (at least early on). I enter every mission in a fearful state and remain that way until the final screen comes up.
