Practically, no. Theoretically, if you want to pay a data recovery service a couple thousand dollars, then perhaps.

In PBEM games, it is important for you (and your opponents) to maintain a good and consistent file naming procedure. Both to prevent you from losing track of your save files among many others, as well as to send the proper one to your opponent. Mid-turn files should generally be named to include your opponent's name and the turn number. If you overwrite one or more of these, then it should not be problematic, so long as you did not name it inappropriately. Indeed, you generally should overwrite them in TOAW III, to minimize the chance of you opening an older file and triggering the cheat warning.

I overwrote a file with a PBEM accidentaly. The auto save is set to load the start of my PBEM turn.

You can explain the problem to your PBEM partner. Then replay the turn from your auto save, or from the PBL file that he originally sent you. It will generate a reload message, but it's better than giving up on the game.

You misunderstand. I saved the PBEM over the Great War 1914-1918 77. I'd been playing that scenario for weeks,and now its gone.

Why didn't you say that in the first place?...[;)]

So...just to be perfectly clear on this...you were playing the Great War, solo, for weeks, then during one of your PBEM games, while saving, you bypassed the Windows file overwrite warning, and overwrote your solo game with the PBEM file save? If so, then sorry to say, but you're hosed, unless you have some earlier save file to go back to.

Maybe all is not lost.  The scenario file ends with *.sce and usually pbem files end with *.sal and *.pbl so if the file you overwrote is still there ( with and *.sce ending ) then maybe you .....well, no, I guess the overwrite would have changed the ending extention as well.  Forget I said anything at all.
