More questions about devices

Post by hueglin »

Can anyone confirm if the following is true?

1. The "accuracy" value is related to the ROF and applies only to naval and AA weapons, not land.

2. The "effect" value is used for naval and AA while the "anti-soft" value is used for land combat against non armoured targets.

3. DP weapons have all of the above values, and use the appropriate value based on the target.

Any other info about how these values work would be greatly appreciated. I know there are some old posts about this but they are not very succinct.

Accuracy and effect appear to always be used. Further - it can be combined with effect. That is, if a shell weight is too low (as it is for 2 inch and 60 mm mortars) you can increase the "effect" (shell weight) and decrease the accuracy (say double one and halve the other). So long as the PRODUCT is the same - the result in calculations is the same.

Anti-soft is always used if a soft target is involved. It is in normal WITP = effect. In RHS it is square root of effect. Further, note that if the shell or bomb is AP RHS does not use weight = effect (the WITP norm). Instead we use a lower fraction - 80% if I remember properly.

Anti-armor is always used if a armored target is involved (e.g. an AFV). It is normally = penetration. Further, many values appear to be (where a high velocity gun is involved) 1.75 times caliber in mm - and if so this obeys a ballistic principle (where you get that value for typical 2700 - 3000 fps weapons).

Assuming the shell weight is not too low, how did you calculate the accuracy in RHS?

For each category of weapons, we looked at the values in the stock and CHS data sets - attempted to relate that to real world values - and then used proportional values for new weapons. I don't remember exactly - but it may be the WITP manual and the RHS manual conspire to clear some of it up.
