Map of South Pacific

Post by 11Bravo »

Hello again,

Where can one get a good high quality map of the operational area for this game?

Will the game map be available for printing out?

I intend to purchase the West Point Military Atlas of WW2 the Pacific Theater($21) You can get in from Barnes and Noble (www.bn.com). I have the one from the European Theater and am happy with it.

Is this atlas in a book form, or is it a wall map (fold out or otherwise)?

OK, those books look good. I will look for them on my next visit to the bookstore.

What about a wall map, or a separate map suitable for laying out some operational plans. What about large scale nautical charts?

Doesn't look like NOAA makes anything that covers the South Pacific. Maybe Australia or UK has a government department that does...

Found this map online:

Charts

Post by Toro »

When I lived in Newport, RI, a store there carried all sorts of nautical charts (and books):

No specific charts listed, but they were always helpful on the phone, too.

Matrix (being the great, caring, and compassionate guys that they are) COULD go ahead and release the game maps for DL...then we can all get busy putting our maps together as we wait in breathless anticipation. DL them, print'em out, piece'em together, and get them laminated ready for combat ops to commence. A set of annotated game maps would probably be far more useful than the "real thing" in any case.

Uh, oh! This thread appears to be occupied by more Mogamis. Operational plans on wall maps...sounds like there are many excellent and serious opponents available for UV. Cheers.

One possibility for charts

Post by PBYPilot »

I had been wondering the same thing about big wall sized maps or charts of the area. I went to the pilot supply store at Santa Monica airport and asked them. After some hmming and hawing, they dug out a DOD map catalog.

What I found out is that there is a map series called WAC World Aeronautical Chart which is 1:1000000 which is , by my calculator, about 16 miles to the inch. They used to be published for the SW Pacific and the area that we're all interested in is covered on 4 charts that cover 145 deg E to 170 deg E and the equator down to 16 deg. S. Each of the 4 charts is is about 58" x 38" and is available as a black and white photocopy only. So pasted together that woiuld cover over 9 feet by 6 feet of wall space.

I'm going to order a set for myself, unless the price is way out of line. If anybody is interested, email me and I'll put the in contact with the pilot store.

And I'll post the cost here, probably later today, when I find out.

Hope this helps
