Have trouble attaking.

Post by dolphinsfan9910 »

I've been playing for a while and:

I find little benefit in attacking into territories with forces of equal or greater forces. They usually dig in and are difficult to get out.

I have realized this can be negated much later in the game with Henry and Spencers, Medical upgrade, and Rapid fire gun upgrade. I form "assault" squads for breaking through the lines. ???

This tends to limit my tactics into waiting until the opposing force attacks a city of mine, and then moving in so I'm on the defensive and they must attack me. Also, this is reversed, and my best bet is to dig in when attacked, let them grind out, and then pursue.

I did notice something I like with the new patch. The South seemed to probe my lines and shift its attack by moving its forces in an obvious attempt to out flank me. Bravo. If the computer would have made a real effort at this attack, it would have hit me hard.

I'd like to see the computer notice an obvious death trap and use a day.....it has four, and manuaver rather than grind it out.

Noticed the lack of constant suicidal charges....Bravo

I'd like to second this opinion about attacking. I play the latest beta, but I always use instant combat. My observations are that one force attacking another in enemy territory is going to lose, no matter that he outnumbers the defending force by 3,4,5 to 1. I have never won one of these battles. My only hope is that thru attrition I will wear down the opposing forces, but as I normally take many more casualities, this is becoming a forlorn hope also. This is with the best leaders I can round up, the best weapons, and many brigade attributes purchased. I find it to be virtually impossible to dislodge an enemy force in enemy territory unless I have hugely overwhelming odds, such as using a fully staffed army to take on a division. Much better to wait and let the AI attack me than to try any offensive operations of my own unless it is to take over undefended provinces and then hope for a counterattack. I don't know if this is due to using the instant combat option or not, but I find that an offensive posture against opposing forces in simply not a viable strategy to attempt.
