any way to cut down on the number of singles to the pitcher? there seem to be just too many...

maybe they can change it so that these results only come from bunts?

I was at a Cardinals' game back in the 80s and saw Ozzie Smith hit one straight down directly in front of the plate. The ball bounced so high (and Ozzie was so fast) that he was able to make it to first while the catcher could only stand there waiting for it to come down so he could make a play. Would that fit the scenario?

yeh i don't mind the fact that there are singles to catcher and pitcher in the game, but to happen as frequently as they do is the problem
