OK the landing went in ok but I was dissapointed by the attack I am really starting to get pissed off by lvl 9 forts in all my games no matter where I go the Japane3se have level 9 forts its just getting silly.

I am going to need to bring in more troops to take this place I will do it but I am starting to get frustrated with my inability to take out high level forts I need more assault engineeers

OK I was a little irritated last night
 
Let me outline my reasons for my axis of advance
 
1. Burma - Tying down Japanese forces I was hoping for a breakthrough but despite having 2:1 in AV before forts are taken into account and total air superiority over a period of months my troops are unable to break through.
 
2. Amphib Landing Bay of Bengal - Delayed because of fuel after my TF's have refueled I will use the TF to land somewhere.
 
3. Strike to North Aus - My main worry is supply and the fact that once again I will face level 9 forts but I want to make Pauk respond in this theatre
 
4. SWPAC - Its important in ealry 43 when its the only theatre the allies can get in range of but after that its a death trap of malaria, lvl 9 forts and in PDU an indestructable IJAAF.
 
5. Marshalls and CENTPAC - its a toss up between Burma and CENTPAC as to which theatre I am most dissapointed in my lack of progress in the Marshalls is a bitter blow considering I held onto Tarawa Pauk has done well in defence but as long as my major units are committted elsewhere I am not going to make much progress. (Losing the carrier battle there has really hindered me)
 
6. Wake - Capturing Wake gives me options to attack Marianas Marshalls or Bonins for that reason it is a good place to take I have a strong fleet presence there but I need to watch KB 'could' be on its way I think its still near Singapore but it could be on its way East so my men will back off after the day one landings
 
Overall dissapointed in my attacking performance I have not done well so far and Pauk has made few mistakes

OK its been a few days and the cat is now out of the bag.......

Pauk kicked my forces out of Wyndham it was annoying because he only managed it because my forces went off road 2 US Divs decided to go into the desert which is dammed annoying.

However my forces have done the job Pauk was unaware of the sheer number of forces I had at Wyndham.

Wake fell after several days of being worn down.

And the real news 5 Helens attacked my force moving south in Burma and found ..... 300 fighters on CAP he knows I am coming lets see howhe likes this attack !!!

OK a lot is happening 6 Fleet Carriers supported by CVL's and CVE's are escorting a massive armada south they are currently 60 miles from Rangoon, Moulmien and 120 miles from Tavoy.
 
I want to take Tavoy but will settle for Moulmien if I have to.
 
KB is hovering about 420 miles to the south a Carrier battle is looming who will win is anyone's guess.

I have paused this game for 24 hours as I face one of the defining moments.

5 USN and 1 RN CV, 4 CVL's and 4 CVE's are in the Indian Ocean with 10 Battleships and over 600 other vessels escorting a 300,000 man invasion force to Tavoy.

My force is 120 miles NW of Tavoy

LBA has closed Moulmien, and all AF's north of it

To the south KB lurks at the mouth of the Malacca Straight outnumbering me probably 2:1 in carrier air (although my fighters are probably better)

I face several options

1. Withdraw north and unload troops at Akyab for an overland assault on Burma.
2. Withdraw fleet carriers 4 hexes north and leave the 4 escort carriers to guard the invasion fleet. (I will take some losses but troops will be ashore and importantly Japanese aircraft will be damaged especially as the fighters of the escort carriers will take a toll !!!) Then next day send the fleet in to fight KB
3. Send the fleet carriers south after KB and try to force an engagement covering the invasion.

I have approximately 200 bombers at Akyab who can close AF's and about 30 P38's all other fighters at Akyab are max range 6.

Another 100 bombers are at Myktina with additional bombers in Southern Burma.

All three options are viable and I am leaning towards 2. but I just don't know.

Since I read both AARs I can just give generic advice : Pauk is certainly aware of the UBERCAP issue, they are not too many ways of (partially foiling it) : Sacrifice 1000s of LBA to weaken it before striking with the KB or Bet on an incoordinated reaction of your CVs towards the KB by placing the KB at say 6 or 7 hexes to the south of your concentrated fleets and supporting massively with LBA from malaya with range capped... This would mean letting the transports go to try to kill or hurt very badly the CVs...

I guess if the troops land at Tavoy his Burma army is in dire dire straits, so he might try to go for the transports anyway with combined KB/surface assets...

Hard to know, but as Sneer said he will be very very lucky/crafty if he can foil your operation... I'd say go with all you have to Tavoy, land there and hope you don't get too many ships damaged...

Go with the invasion!!!

Try to position your CV/CVL force in a hex that has clear weather. Players sometime forget to click on a particular hex to see what kind of weather they will get the next day. [;)] I would place this fleet one hex SW of the invasion force and have his planes have to go through it to get to the transports.

Thanks Guys if I had all my carriers in the Bay of Bengal I would go after him but I dont only 5 USN CV's are present only 1 of them with Corsairs
 
If I can take tavoy in strength I think it unhinges his whole defence in Burma especially if I drive south as he committed a lot of troops to Australia.
 
Remember I lost the last CV Battle so I need to be carefull.
 
The reward is worth the risk so I will go ahead with Tavoy and I will cover it with my carriers and hope they do not react south !!!!

If they react south and he gets good strikes from LBA as well... ouch... have you stacked them up with fighters or normal groups and what are the CAP settings : do you have a House rule à la no mor than 60 or 70% CAP ?

You are propably going to loose CV vs CV battle in Burma but does that really matter...??? Those British CV's arent exactly your most valuable assets.
 
The landing at Tavoy is good idea if you can simultaneously push towards Mandalay from North. (I did similar thing againts FDR and really destroyed his Burma army quite nicely.) I tried the Akyab landroute in my other PBEM and that really is not worth it at all. Too slow.
 
As for the CenPac since it seems that he has a lot of troops at South Pacific/Oz you might want push through Marcus, Iwo Jima and Bonin. Those bases are very valuable. I had similar thing againts Erstad where he has strong garrisons in Southern areas, Marshalls and Marianas. Now that I sliced through there the Japan itself is in the flames literally.
 
Also noticed that you Pauk has freedom to train in China. Any chance of stopping him there. (That would be beneficial too even if you take a lot of losses there) I never let my opponent train his airforce there for free and in the end he has always needed to stop the whole operation.

No limit on CAP but the sqns are still normal size so I have about 300 fighters total 36 x 5 on USN Fleet and 21 x 4 on USN Lights so 264 USN (all but 36 Hellcats) and 18 FAA Corsairs
 
Plus about another 80 on the escort carriers with the invasion fleet

SWPAC's forces have been split 50 : 50 between Australia and the reinforcements for SEAC
 
The remainder are in the Marshalls.

Very interesting turn my carriers reacted again but thats ok it worked for me I had ordered the landing force off of Tavoy and am considering going for VP instead so I ordered paras to land and check out VP.

Only 10,000 men there.

Massive carrier and LBA battle I lost 2 CVE's and may lose Essex my carrier airgroups are cut to shreds I lost over 450 aircraft mostly from the carrierts but in turn we shot down over 960 Jap aircraft.

His strike aircraft have to be hurting

Looks like I got a piece of Akagi and Hiyo and he has to transit sub infested waters to get them home.

Essex may sink and the rest of my strike groups wiull be lucky to manage to put a CAP up tomorrow.

I have 50 Wildcats in reserve ready to hot deck as well as lots of Barracudas so my carriers can still operate and to be blunt the remaining CVE's are expendible if my landing force gets ashore.

I need to think next steps through but although this was a draw my force is still intact and the allied forces will move forward against VP or Tavoy !!!

Between all my carriers I have 150 aircraft mostly damaged left
 
I can fly on 50 fresh fighters but thats it so any carrier with less that 10 operational aircraft after consolidfation will withdraw to rearm

p.s. I view this a s a tactical draw perhaps a strategic victory depending on next few turns (I get 13 CVE's in next 60 days so I can afford to lose them)
