Vista Incompatibility

Post by pompack »

Stock patched to 1.08.04 on a laptop running Vista

Apparently Vista does not recognize files written by the WitP application

Clear all files from the save folder
Start any scenario and save one or more times as you process the first turn
End the session and go to the WitP load screen; all files you saved will be displayed for loading as you would expect.
Go to desktop and open the save folder; no files will be visible, the folder looks empty (even with hidden files displayed)

OK for AI games, but it makes playing PBEM a bit*h

Note that transferring an existing Save folder from an XP machine to the Vista machine (as I did) will result in VERY erratic behavior; the test sequence above seems to provide consistent (if strange) results.

running WITP & VISTA without any problems,
but I had a similar problem with another game.

do not save anything into the windows folder and the same for the user folder !! ( this is where I had my problem )

Either install witp into the program folder or create a new c:matrixgames/witp folder.

Hmm
Werner: thanks for the tip. [&o] What it tells me is I am doing something wrong and it is fixable if I can figure out what it is. I installed into the program folder but it has not helped me; I will try re-installing in the root the way the Matrix installer defaults.

Make your own shortcut to the .exe file, works for XP not sure about Vista.

Installing in root seems to have solved the problem. Thanks to swift and to all the others who contributed suggestions [&o]
