Pilot Training: Mogami Method vs. Other

Post by Q-Ball »

Quick question: What is the Pilot training method most JFB's use?

I am familiar with Mogami Method, which is disbanding units together, having a pipeline of disbanded units coming regularly. The disadvantage is that you always have a number of units forming, in addition to the ones training; total cycle time is probably 90 days + 90 days of training = 6 months for good fighter pilots. The advantage though is that you can keep intact a pool of trained pilots in the pilot replacement pool.

The other method is to deplete units, pull them back, fill them out with new pilots, and send them to training immediately. No disbands. The advantage is that you can skip that 90 days of re-forming disbanded units, which shortens cycle time to 3 months instead of 6. The disadvantage, it seems to me, is that you have to use up your pilot replacement pool.

I can't decide what is best. A pool is nice to have, to fill out Emily units for example, or to provide alot of pilots fast in 1944, where being able to mount 300 pilots in Franks at a moment's notice could come in handy. But it would also be nice to have more units on the front line. It's also can be hard to use disband for carrier airgroups, both because you don't get many ground-based Kate/Vals, and it's also tough to get the size just right so you don't overload the CV--for that, the IJN pilot pool also comes in handy.

What do most JFB's use?

My PERSONAL method.
I train squadrons up and load them onto a transport and unload them at a base with minimal av support.

Next turn, a SMALL portion of the unit is repaired and those planes are transfered to another base (this is now parent unit).

The unrepaired planes are left behind (now fragment)

I now move a depleted squadron to the same base containing the fragment and disband the fragment into this new squadron, filling it up.

The parent unit containing 2-3 planes is now refilled with pilots using the get pilot button, and can then be trained up again.

If you train up squadrons, use leaders with a VERY high inspiration rating, these increase training effectivnes significantly.

Hope this helps [;)][:D]

Step 1: Send unit to China
Step 2: Find something to bomb. Do so for about 3 months or until desired Exp level is reached
Step 3: Withdraw from China and send into combat.

I used this and in 90 days I raised units with 40 EXP into the high 70s.

I definitely use the deplete and rebuild/retrain method. The only times I disband are when I'm refreshing a carrier group. Once a group is down to about a third of full strength it gets pulled back for recovery. Works great for me.

Hi all,

Please note that "Admiral LaurenT" also has his own method which I think is, possibly, the best one... please check his AAR for description (also he is, almost certainly, one of the best Japanese players and his achievements are tremendeous!)...
