Which UFO do you shoot down?

Post by waterwings »

After the third month, the skies fill with UFOs in my game (2-4 at a time). I have been choosing the "plus sign" ones while leaving the small scouts alone. At the beginning of the later months, my ratings with the other regions are bad to terrible. Am I doing something wrong or do I just wait it out and hope my bases will sort things out? Man I hate those claw things!
Thanks for any reply.

Shoot down everything you can. Scouts are easy. However, you may not want to go on missions to scouts as they cause a lot of casualties earlier on. Getting through the door usually causes 1-2 casualties no matter what.

From time to time in the game the aliens throw a very hectic, busy month at you. At other times things are quieter. Looks like you hit the first Super-Wave!

In order to improve the ratings, start building bases in other regions. Radar coverage will increase the ratings. Avoid too many interceptors elsewhere but there are hangars at each base for such a thing.

I usually go for the easy ones. I wait for them to get close to one of my bases first so that 1) I can quickly refuel and 2) They crash on land so I can choose to recover or not.
At first I just go after the scouts and fighters but as my equipment gets better I go after the cruisers too. The battlecruisers I leave alone half the time unless I'm in the mood to capture a commander. Sometimes I wait for them to land and then assault them. I NEVER attack a battleship that's in the air. I wait for it to land before assualting.
Also unlike Xcom the aliens will attack your troop ship any chance they get.

as they have said, attack what you think you can get and get away with, early on, when the crusiers start, let them fly by, but watch for them to land, if they land, take em

as you get better weapons then you can expand how you react

later in the game, single Intercepters can be over kill vs small UFOs

I'm in March also (near end of month), I've built 2 additionnal bases and 2 Adv Cannon. I've only seen Scouts and Fighters but they come frequently ! Until now I catch them all, for Scouts 1 Interceptor is ok, vs Fighters I send 2. What works well is to send one plane in "Attack Standard", send it back when it's damaged > 50%, and send another from another base - often the fight is long and UFO spans 1,000s of Km so another base is near.

Can't run away from the really big ships though, they will shoot you down as you flee! [:D]

the big boys are nasty, at times, you got to break off before the shell hits, and then on the way back to base, change your plotting, a 90% turn, will pay off every once in a while

of course, the bad part is, it is a lot of mirco management
