aircraft vanishing, again!

Has anyone else had aircraft vanish (or possibly suspect they have)? I unloaded the 72 P-40Es of the 49th FG at Brisbane and left the unit there in "stand down" mode while the a/c were repaired. When I had 24 serviceable I moved them to Charter Towers and let the AI move the remainder of the a/c as they became serviceable. After about 10 turns I found I had 39 a/c and 72 pilots at Charter Towers. I could not find any fragment units of the 49th in either the land or ship based aircraft screens. So what happened to the missing 33 aircraft?

The game I'm playing is a mod I created based on Scen 15 and patched to 1.805 (this happened before 1.806 came out). Brisbane has five other air units present, over 200 av spt troops and 25000+ supply pts. Charter Towers has only the 49th present, 30 av spt troops and over 7000 supply pts. The unit was not assigned any missions and there have been no attacks of any kind on Brisdane or Charter Towers.

Click on the air unit info screen.  The button is an aircraft at the top of the screen.  There are two buttons, one for land based air and another for sea based.  See if a fragment is in some weird location.

I once lost a fragment that according to the aircraft list was based not at a base, but on a base force, which itself had been destroyed in the Phillipinnes. Chalk it up to the Devil's Sea...

I've done that already. This is the second time in this game that its happened, the other time was when I moved the 7th BG from the US to India and had almost half the groups a/c vanish. It happened early in the game and I hadn't had any similar probelms between these two incidents. The only common threads between the two instances is that the a/c that vanished were under repair, I started moving the groups before all a/c were serviceable and they were in Oz.

It is normal. It happens to me all the time on both sides. I supposed those ACs are going back to the pool. The same thing happens if you have more AC in the unit, than is its max size when excess ACs are put into reserve at first and then slowly disappear back to the pool.

I never leave AI to make the fragment left behind catch up with the main unit.  Also, if you have left a unit or fragment where there is no air support or it runs out of supply, it will no longer show in the map icon, and you have to click on the city/base, status box, open the 'aircraft located at ____' to find them. Otherwise, as stated above, get used to searching the 'air unit info screen' for these lost orphans, and the same is frequently necessary for ground units, particularly if one is on the offensive.
 
In any case, given this huge game, you guys are doing well to remember where you left anything!
