Post by cantona2 »

8 turns in and no animations. using same versions of CHS and AB's map. My opponent has sent me his pref file and still nothing. im at the point of not knowing if and when my LCU's moveor where reinforcements arrive as they do not appear on the ops opr comabt reports.

i do not want to restart the game but would welcome some advice or pointers

thanks

Do the animations run to a blank screen or not run at all? A blank screen is one symptom of missing or incorrect ship/plane art.

Check your preference settings from the game screen at the top left of the menu choices.

It sounds like it's your animations that are turned off.

Halsey both all options are turned ON. Ive read the threads on this and most people got their animations a few turns into the game

For the record we are both using the same version of CHS

I'm Cantona's opponent and I can confirm I've been sending him a copy of my preferences file with each turn. Assuming he's overwriting his existing preferences file with the one I send him before running the turn, he should be getting the same settings as me - including combat animations - but is not.

We appreciate from previous replies to our pleas for help on this that it may take a few turns before the animations re-appear, but after some 8 turns their failure to do so is a cause for concern.

For our most recent turn and by agreement I turned off display of clouds in my preferences. We hoped that the program would pick up the fact that a change had been made to previous preferences, and that this would cause it to re-evaluate and re-apply all preferences, including combat animations. I'm waiting to hear whether this has had the desired effect, but given the contents of this thread I fear it hasn't.

Nope Yokel, i rewrite my pref files with yours at every turn and still nowt. Like i said earlier i do not want to abandon the game and will carry on ahead, hopefully the animations come back. Last turn you sent, no anims yet :(

im also dont get all the sequences in the game, night phase, day phase, supplt phase etc etc

im just assuming these are absent because of the same reason as the animations

start other test PBEM game (can do it locally and remotely), see if you have animation there. if not, try to reinstall the game.

Ok, run a few tests. No animations in a PBEM game but i do get everything else, eg supply status,day/night pahses, those lovely aircraft sightins and CR's and so on. i do get animations in an AI game.

One thing ive noticed is that the game does whatecer the hell it wants with the game preferences. ive noticed that despite having animations, reports etc ON when the game starts, once the game is saved and i check in the preferences and realism options both the combat reports AND animations are OFF?!?!?!?!!?!?!?

any ideas

Was the PBEM vs yourself with historical start? If so, think we established before there's a bug in historical starts that turns off animations initially - see this thread. In that case, may be worth trying a PBEM vs yourself using a non-historical start. If nothing else, eliminates possible cause for loss of animations.

Well, I'm sorry to say I've never seen this go for so long resolving the animation glitch.

I know it's been suggested before but, both of you should double check your main preference screen settings, AND your in game preference settings.

Hope you guys get it resolved.
The combat animations really help to make the game more enjoyable.

BTW, have you DL'd any new graphics to your game?
If so, there is a possibility that they might be in an incorrect folder.
This could cause a disruption of combat displays also.

Good luck!

Sorry, I'm out of ideas.

The switching off the preferences by itself has got me baffled.
I've never seen that before.

Hopefully others can help you.

Have you thought about both of you send a save turn file to one of the moderator/design people?
Maybe if one of them has a looksee they can figure it out.

Well, before doing your install, I'd say make sure you do a full wipe. Make sure all the WITP pieces are removed from your machine. Then try a fresh install.
