Muslims don't have popes, but the Islamic equivalent of that post would be caliph.
Or was that supposed to be sarcasm?
No response. Or was that supposed to be insipid?

Now I have to find a dictionary and look up "insipid."

As we both have UV and BoA, I don't know if you've noticed that the more BoA's AI improves, the less historical the game becomes, i.e., it's much harder to win as the Colonials under 1.11B. Although its AI is less challenging than the AGEOD engine, UV is at least faithful -- if not predictable -- to the action in that part of the world during the 1940s.

I play different games off and on depending on how busy my schedule is during the year. I normally wait a year or so after games come out before I buy them and begin any adventuring (it's the bug thing...it normallly takes a year or so to get the major bugs worked out...not just Matrix, but that is pretty much the norm for games nowadays).

Anyway, I've just begun a UV campaign and I'm not doing too well right now though.

I love a good game and wish there were more high-quality choices along the lines of the Matrix-type games. I like a good challenge and I like my games to be both entertaining and immersive...that doesn't necessarily require a high level of complexity...it just has to be fun.

I still play but not nearly as much as when it first came out.

I'll play every couple of months.

It's just a huge time commitment and I'm commitment phobic [8D]

still playing here too....only so many gaming hours in a day. The best thing I can say is that I keep coming back to UV for a campaign or two before 'visiting' another game.

I think that what keeps people playing UV is the detail, scope and the ability to do a turn rather quickly. PBEM games usually move along at fairly brisk pace as a turn or 2 per day is not that time consuming.

I never thought that doing an AAR would be so time consuming and difficult.

I bought WITP when it came out, but have never had the time to play it.

I ran accross UV in the PX in '02 and bought it on a whim (I had never heard of it). I have been playing it on and off since then, as the scale is considerably more manageable than WITP.

It is my all time favorite wargame.

I've read all the new CAW threads and remembered how much I wished the old CAW had a campaign system--makes me want to reload, patch, and play UV again. I've got lots of good PBEM memories with UV.

Playing UV since it was available, and still enjoy it to this day. Except for the few additional campaigns, from others, I hoped a addon from the developers would have happened. Shame it was never done

Yes, I still play UV. It has never left my hard drive, and is a great, accessible, fun game.

Drinking a cool brew; thinking about playing my next wargame....

Just getting into it again after playing when it first came out (hoping to start some PBEM games soon). It was a little too much for me but I've since advanced as a wargamer (both computer and board). I might move on to WPO at some point but I don't know if I'll ever make the leap to WitP. Too many other games to play when considering the time required, and the touch of "angst" I sense in the WitP forums scares me away.

"Angst" is anxiety or frustration.

Agreed.

A quick stroll through some of todays post found this...
I think that the point is less so much the "Zero Bonus" as that the A to A model itself is "dorked".

The game programmers don't understand about how the Army works, and simulate unrealistic levels of local command autonomy. Just wait until you experience ground combat.

[:D]Lot's of comments like these down there.[X(]

Myself, I think they are house ruling the game to death.

For example most won't let the Allied player bomb Japanese ships with 4E's below 10,000ft. Why not?

They say there too powerfull and point one event at Midway where only 9 B17's bombing from 12,000ft missed!

Well that's all fine and good but they totally forget the Japanese convoy that left Rabaul going to Lae in March 43'.

B17's certainly smashed these moving ships and these ships had CAP over them.

As well, In just six weeks 8-10 B17's a day demolished fortress Rabaul.

B17's were that powerful, couldn't hit moving ships? I think that's nonsense.

I wouldn't feel very safe in a convoy with 25 B17's at 6,000ft flying my way. Would you?

Maybe there are some down on that forum trying to twist the game more to the way they want it than the way it actually was. [X(]

Just a thought. [8D]

Exactly. Interesting that WPO doesn't seem to have these kinds of responses from players. That's the advantage of gaming hypothetical conflicts I guess.
