"Unit" Editor

Post by jwilkerson »

I see the announcement indicates there is a "Unit Editor". Does this mean we can change the combat values of the platoons? Or does this just mean we can create OOBs?

In the original release of EastFront, the platoon oob file was a text file and we could change (a.k.a. "correct" [:D]) the values, but from the first EF patch on these files have been at least "semi" encrypted.

So just looking for clarification as to whether unit values can be changed in the new release.

Thanks,

Joe W.

It is the standard Order of Battle Editor.

Thanks Jason,

And I assume the platoon oob file is still "semi-encrypted" as well, i.e. we do not have any (supported) means to modify the unit data, correct?

When "Talsonsoft" first changed this from open text file to "protected" I rationalized the move as them trying to protect competition players from those who would modify the file and not tell their opponents. But it would certainly be pretty easy these days to check it out. Shareware "DIFF" products take a few minutes to DL and use. But do you have any thoughts about ever opening this back up again? Or is there a good reason it is locked down?

No problem, of course.

Yes, it is using the same encryption system as before. There is a decryption and encryption tool available online with a "how to" available, if you google for it. Your rationalization would be correct and the units will more than likely remain encrypted.

Although I wouldn't mind seeing a true "unit editor" where you could create NEW units, but not alter OLD units.

Take care and good luck
