EA Swiss Units

Post by sapper32 »

Its turn 23 in EA my opponent the Allies has launched an attack into Germany to counter this motorized units tried to flank two stacked French units to surround them and then crush them however the motorized units had to move along the Swiss border to acheive this and where disrupted by two fortified Swiss units (neutral). The outcome was my chance of getting behind the french units was lost and my subsequent attack just pushed the French back in effect this is a handicap for me should this happen??? The battle of Medjerda is almost forgotten, but was fought against highly disciplined German troops and blasted a route straight to Tunis it was a perfect infiltration battle and should be remembered as the best fought British battle of the war.

Well, it's a limitationof the system. With any unit at the edge of an exclution zone it effects the units next to it. I'll talk to Shane and Mark about either deploying the Swiss upon a German DoW, or moving them back, away from the edge of the exclution zone.
The problem with just deploying them upon a German DoW is that they start not entrenched or fortified, which gives them a significant disadvantage in defending.
The problem with pulling them back form the edge of the exclution zone is that they would loose area to fall back from, and again get a disadvantage in defence.
To repeat history in a game is to be predictable.

It does seem a little bizarre the mighty whermact being hindered by the swiss and the same will apply to the italians on the southern border,i will have to keep this in mind and beware the swiss in future operations or maybe just destroy them???

A handy workaround for this is to use some of the numerous German HQ units to move into the hexes adjacent to the Swiss, both before and after movement of the "real" forces. This way they will prevent disengagement attacks against the other units and can freely disengage into occupied adjacent hexes, if they are the rearguard.
