A picture sez a thousand words?

Looking for SBD wing bomb referances which can be verifiable.[:)]

Nice SBD site by vets.(Note wing bomb racks also)

This is from the National Space and Air Museum:

http://www.nasm.si.edu/research/aero/ai ... as_sbd.htm

(Note the mention of wigracks or drop tanks for the wing mounts.)

One of those websites some folks don't like to use :

http://www.warbirdalley.com/sbd.htm

another 'website", that of BOEING aircraft:

http://www.boeing.com/history/mdc/dauntless.htm

Note the bombload of over 2000 lbs, which is certainly greater than the single 1000 lb on that trapeze-sling..

That's an SBD-5.  Also note the yagi radar antennas under the wings.  Virtually all US carrier bombers and Marine Corps singel engine bombers carried those by mid 1944.  I have yet to see a picture of an SBD-5 in a combat unit without those antennas.

That plane is from VMSB-231 BTW.
