RE: Air raids on the Home Islands
Hakodate was bombed in daylight by B-29's today and 3 subs in port damaged!
It's impossible to have 150 fighters in all threatened bases, but I will increase CAP cover
and try to have one good interceptor unit in each base and provide LRCAP on a random basis in
an attempt to hurt the enemy bombers. In a while they will be completely worn out by the extreme
long range missions and turn around because of low morale whenever they encounters CAP fighters.
Troop convoys are slowly extracting the numerous base forces from the outer perimeter bases.
I would like to fill most of the Home Island bases with as many AS points as possible.
I question whether Japanese Home Island bases should all have generic base force units that
cannot be moved.

Nothing strange there as I see it, the bombing will cause use of supply to repair.

I think Castor was referring to the 1000 feet altitude. These units were flying at night the turns before and Andy probably forgot to change alt when he switched them to day raids. When you see the result, it was not a problem....
As for the choice of targets, I think Andy was rather targetting the docked SS and grounded night-fighters (as they fly night CAP they won't scramble by day) rather than supplies. He also bombed industry targets (at least the repair shipyards, but maybe more).
RE: Air raids on the Home Islands
I assumed the B-29's were put on 1000 feet by mistake, this has happened many times before.
A bit strange, even night bombing B-29's are bombing from 6000 feet. Hopefully these raids are bad for crew morale,
especially when flying 4-5 raids pr week.
Damage to ac research facilities has been moderate, I've turned of many of the merchant yards and repairs will only
be conducted on the most important plants.
Andy sent some cve's and a supply ship to Bonin! Our kamis hit 2 cve's and the AK!
Been hard at work reinforcing the Northern and Southern defenses of the Home Islands.
Aiming for 5-700 AP and aviation support in all bases. This is especially a challenge when I have to ferry
troops to the outlying islands. Recalled some para units, they make up an emergency reserve.
A crack division is resting in Osaka/Kobe, 99 exp but some 30 morale.

RE: Air raids on the Home Islands
I would keep significant troops in Camranh Bay and Saigon. Hue can't be supplied from the sea, and so if you manage to hold the passes N and S of Ubon (as you did now), taking Camranh Bay will be the only way Andy can turn Hue into an active air base.
Also with these base in your hands you may attack Allied convoys passing by. You can try send more supplies with barges from Taan.

RE: Air raids on the Home Islands
I suggest you hold Saigon and Camranh Bay. Time is more important than troops.
Hold on!

Hold on!

The war is not about who is right. It is about who is left.
RE: Air raids on the Home Islands
Hm, yes I agree to a certain degree - the case is that the enemy's enormous superiority in the air
may make this a hopeless task. If we retreat we would give these bases to the enemy 2-3 weeks earlier but
sustain our Army which could march north for R&R. In 4-5 months they would be able to march back into the fight
or be shipped to other crucial areas under attack by the enemy.
The passes around Ubon will be pried open by enemy LBA and LCU.
Many small convoys are now returning to the Home Islands with Base Force Units. Reinforcements from outer perimeter
is also getting in place and a strong surface fleet is being readied in Osaka. 6 battleships, 8 cruisers and 20 destroyers
and a carrier is the final throw of the dice for the Imperial Navy! A myriad of smaller combatants: PG, PC, MSW and subs will be supporting it.
So, where will Andy strike next? Will he make an all out assault to capture the Bonins, go for the Philippines or land in Paramushiro islands and Sakhalin? Pretty sure it has to be one of these targets as the Home Islands themselves are too strongly held and Formosa and Okinawas are too strongly protected by our LCU and LBA. Not many options left for an impatient scot, is there [;)]
When he commits next time I will move more troops from the Marianas as I'm pretty sure he's not coming back here!

Air Reinforcements
As you can see there are only a few air reinforcements left. Considering stopping Oscar II construction.
They're gunfodder, but I've been needing them. Perhaps time to save the resources it cost to make them?
Will re-equipp as many units as possible before the next enemy offensive and throw them all into the fight.

may make this a hopeless task.

RE: Air raids on the Home Islands
Heavy raids on the Home Islands! Andy is targetting secondary targets with relatively low CAP.
Still, we managed to down 25 Forts and damage another 50. He can't send in too many of these before morale becomes
completely broken. Just have to live with the fact that our bases in the West and East of the Home Island will take
a beating every now and then.
We got a cve today loaded with 24 Corsairs. That's a good thing!
Within a month we will have moved 15-20 Base Force Units to the Home Islands. Still in the process of moving
fighter units to cover all the exposed bases.

RE: Air raids on the Home Islands
More air raids - mostly smaller ones!
Gentlemen, I need your help:
Look at this: We soon got 2000 AP at Bonin Jima, several HQs and 70k supplies.
The enemy must be low or out of supplies and got 1295 AP before modifiers for low supplies and mountain defense terrain
are added. Is it doable to start deliberate attacks, or should be wait until the odds are more in our favor?

Okha
Look what I've found: the USSR base of Okha has 400 oil and 300 resources and no? garrison!
When we get closer to August I'd like to consider occupying this base in order to add to our
oil reserves. The base is probably packed with em.
What do you think, good idea? [:)]

RE: Air raids on the Home Islands
Iwo Jima: Attacking there might grab his attention. Would your troops ever recover from failed assault?
As for Okha: It's extremely unrealistic that such a resource gold mine would have been left undefended when they at least have base forces defending cities against wild animal attacks in Siberia. It would be a sweet cutting out expedition tho.

RE: Air raids on the Home Islands
With 70k supplies my troops will recover much quicker than the enemy's. If I waith a week between each attack
we should see a slowly weakening of the enemy! Can give it a try. Will attempt to bomb and disrupt enemy LCU in the coming week [8D]
If I use a sizeable invasion force to take Okha it wouldn't be a 'simple grab'. I'm slowly building up an army nearby and can march it
north towards Okha and launch a pre-emptive strike on the reds!! If I don't, it's possible that enemy troops will come marching down the
path instead [:'(]

RE: Air raids on the Home Islands
Possibly the detection level is so low that it just doesnt show the troops there. Fly a recon mission or two and find out.
Or then again, flying recon might trigger the soviets prematurely.

RE: Air raids on the Home Islands
I'd go for the attack at Iwo Jima.
This might force Andy to stop the Strategic attacks from the East to help defend his LCUs.
If you get 0-1 then all is not lost - he doesn't have the strength to defeat your LCus whilst they recover between attacks.

RE: Air raids on the Home Islands
No recon over Okha until August[:'(] Will move 2 tank regiments to Shikka and move them north of the City.
They should be able to blitz the place! Bringing the tanks in from Palaus and Philippines.
Home Islands can take the current rate of air bombardment. Got so many reserves and dispersed factories that Andy can bomb until 1947 before we're in trouble. Waiting impatiently for the Reppu and A6M8 to go into production.....

1 Carrier
6 Battleships
5 Heavy cruisers (1 is out of action with 50 sys damage)
5 Light Cruisers (2 are out of action with 40-50 sys damage)
24 Destroyers (3 are out of action with 40-50 sys damage, all others will be thrown into the battle, even with 20-30 sys damage. 3 new destroyers will arrive in ca 20 days)
41 Submarines (7-8 out of action, numerous with 15-35 sys damage that can be used for mining, patroling and hunting down cripples).
Submarine arm has re-generated nicely with the new RO program. Still more on the slips, accelerated 6-7 of them including a Ha sub with radar.
It's not much, but we can disrupt an enemy invasion by feinting with the carrier and striking hard with our powerful battleship squadrons when the moment is ripe. Subs will lay mines and attempt to finish the cripples.
Got our 3 large subs out north of PH shadowing several enemy convoys, trying to figure out where they're heading.
Looks like they're moving north of Midway towards Marcus right now. Very little enemy surface activity. Are the carriers in PH or the West Coast re-fitting? How much time do we have until the next assault? Where will it come?
Never ending questions....

RE: Air raids on the Home Islands
I have moved troops to block Andy's supplies NE of Bangkok again and will attempt to drive his
troops of the railroad between Malaya and Bangkok. 200 B-29s at Hue must be burning a helluva lot of supplies.
Will have to come in by trail when it's expended.
The enemy convoys now north of Midway is continuing towards Wake. Unfortunately we don't have anything to intercept
them with.
Enemy troops on Iwo must be very low on supplies and their support troops have been bombarded for a long time.
Casualties to their strength will not be repaired, but it will be looong and costly process to reduce them.
Planning to throw green divisions into the attack and earn them experience.
Barges are slowly bringing in more troops from Bonin to bolster our AP.
It will be impossible to defend the Philippines if Andy makes an all out effort supported by LBA in Indo China,
especially if the last few bases there can be reduced. There are soo many islands in the PI, only delay tactics will
work. Considering whether I should bring in more reinforcements!? More troops from the outer bases are slowly trickling
in. Would like to bring out some cadres from Bien Hoa after they retreat to Saigon.
From the Philippines Formosa and the Okinawas could be captured and the Home Islands bombed by B24s. This is clearly
the most serious threat, but it will take time to achieve this, maybe as long as the close of 45. Still, this is my biggest
worry. No more convoys would be able to pass from India and the DEI.

especially if the last few bases there can be reduced.

RE: Air raids on the Home Islands
It's a bit strange: When enemy bombers hit home bases/cities I'm often informed that '27 hits' are scored.
Nothing about which targets are hit. Have to go to bases/cities and examine for myself. Thus far 0 civilian
casualties have been reported and I don't get any info about fires either.
Can anyone confirm whether this is working as it's supposed to?

More raids on the Home Islands. Andy is selectively picking targets with little CAP.
Amazing how accurately he can do this. Today he was after resources and oil!
More and more aviation support is becoming available and as soon as I can put 50 fighters
on CAP in all threatened bases the B-29 threat will dimish markedly.
