How About the Waffen SS?

Post by XLVIIIPzKorp »

Just wondering if there were any plans to give the SS their own unit bases. Always liked the white on black counters from back in the borad game days. Those white runes on black bases sure would look nice.

I don't think the present engine allow an army to have more than one unit base type.

What little I know, it would seem to be a case of the SS being it's own country, added to the list or replacing another country.

Precisely, which could be considered overkill.

Hmmm.... so the SS would have to be set up in their own country slot with their own unit bases? Then any previous scenario would need to be modified to incorporate these new national units and bases? Sounds like a decent amount of work for eye candy I guess. Oh well, I can only hope someone with more understanding and talent than I have may give it a shot someday.

A huge amount of work, if one was to go back and change all of the scenarios that incorporate the SS units. Huge indeed.

The Vietnam mod for DG is an amazing piece of work. Each unit has 6 viewpoints that need artwork. When you see how much detail that was put into the mod with black pajama VC, camo'ed SF, aircraft, etc, etc, Wow.

Someone would have to be dedicated and talented enough to make a complete SS stand alone mod.

Huge efforts were put into that mod, and is highly recommended.

You could always start tinkering and see what you can come up with.

Whatever about the bases it was possible in the old CS with just a little editing to add Camo uniforms for SS units which looked pretty good in-game.

That will still be possible for the new CS as well.

If you right click the picture, and click properties, you see his website address and the bmp number that has been modded. I checked his website and the only downloads are sound mods.

You may be able to right click and save as... for each of the bmps. Be sure to back up copies of your originals before you try to use these.

Sure i'll just need to liberate most of the files from an old HD first which could take a day or two.

As the standard Wehrmacht and SS units use the same .bmp files you'll need to edit your platoon01.oob to reissue different .bmp's so just the SS units will be displayed in camo.

It's pretty easy to do so after the new version is released i'll put an SS mod together , or if requested by whoever i'll pass the bmp's along and they can be added in some future official patch.

Now if you'd just like to replace already existing graphics with new ones nothing could be simpler its just a matter of copying them into your game folder and let them overwrite existing files.

Some examples.

One thing to remember before playing around with graphics / sounds always back-up your files first or it could end in tears [:D]
