Congratulations and ideas for the future

Post by crh3 »

I would like to extend a hearty congratulations to all involved with the Matrix campaign series. I downloaded it last night and I am very impressed. I still think that this is the best tactical system out there. Maybe it's early to start talking about upgrades, but modding the game is one of the great joys of the game for me. I noticed that some of the nations included in the Rising Sun Far East Project were not included in the Matrix release. Are there any plans to include them in a future upgrade? Also, I worked on an Ethiopia mod for West Front many years ago. I have made some improvements to that original mod that may be useful for a future upgrade along with some scenarios. Once again I cannot stress enough how wonderful it is to have this new release of the campaign series.

all the best,

Although I have not gotten the upgrade yet (but plan to once funds free up) I also have suggestions for the future.

I would like to see the system expand to include some WWI scenarios. I know there would be quite a amount of work to add the correct countries and units for all the WWI participants and then make scenarios. But I think the campaign series could eventually expand to cover warfare in the 20th century (or at least 1900 to 1960.) I would even be willing to pay to have new eras added to the base Campaign Series.

Thanks,
Duncan

I really loved the helicopter scenerios in DG. Lotsa missles flying! I hope they can expand the game to more modern times as well.

Charles,

I got your Ethiopians years ago and they are brilliant. The Design Team would be well advised to include anything you offer. You were always one of my favourite modders.

I'd really like to see the "record battle" option work for pbem games as it'd be excellent for AAR's

Ideas for the future...

Everyone in the world has/will mention AI issues so I will cut straight to the trivia..

There is something I would like to see, though I was nearly castrated on the Blitz for saying I wanted it - some of the prototype German equipement, especially the E-50 and E-100 panzers. After that, early war, late war, and DAK specific unit bmps for the Germans and snow bmps for everyone (parkhas on the house, boys.) In general, a raising of the bar for graphics. Eye candy, I concede, but this game really has been like playing miniatures that don't take up a bunch of room.

Those who wish may commence to throw stones...

Hi Good to hear from you. Yes the Mongols and Manchukuoans did not make it on.
I am hoping to get them on later. I have some Khalkhin Gol scenarios I want to use them on.

On the other hand I took your Ethiopians and extended them back to 1935 for the war vs the Italians have a good oob for them and added the details for the Italians in East Africa for the period 1935-41. Now you can make all the Ethiopian scenarios you want.

Also did the Spanish Civil War added on to the Republicans you started and with help from Chema Rando and other sources added on Nationalists and the Italian CTV.
Have a few scenarios for the SCW, Virgin, Brunete and Puerto Escudo.

In lieu of improving the AI, which I know is difficult, I was thinking it would be nice to have an option to increase the numerical strength of the AI opponent in randomly generated battles and dynamic campaigns, Even to double or triple opposing forces to make the fight more balanced given the shortcomings of the AI.

More orderly AI deployment would also be great.

Once in a while the game will get lucky and really deliver a great set-up for a battle that you can't believe was randomly generated.

Hi George,

It's good to hear from you too. Too bad about the mongols and manchukuoans; I would love to play your Khalkhin Gol scenarios. I am so glad to see the Ethiopians and the Spanish Civil War represented in the CS. You and everyone involved in the matrix release deserve nothing but the highest praise for a job very well done. I know that some people on these message boards have been critical of the release (very much in the minority fortunately), but I can't help but think that those people don't really understand all the work that I know you and others have put in to make this release as complete as it is right now. I can only express my appreciation for all of your efforts. [&o]

all the best,

I am thinking that until the new additions can be made the Mongols and Manchukuoans could be improvised from Soviet and Japanese units as their equipment was so close. Manchukuoans and Mongols were mainly cavarly in these battles with a few Mongolian amoured cars thrown in.

I may release my scenarios that way. Most of the fighting was between the Japanese and Soviets anyway.
