Tutorial/Manual

Post by tgb »

Having been burned by the crappy manual and lack of tutorial for SSG's last release, now noob-friendly is this? Is there an extensive tutorial, and is the manual clearly laid out and helpful?

There is an extensive tutorial on a range of topics, plus comprehensive help text in tooltips. The manual has been through many edits and many pairs of eyes so it should do the job for you.

TGB I'm a total noob at this - glad I never bought the original way back (I was stuck in Steel Panther land).

The in game tut is pretty robust with 19 sections running from "click the map to move - go to next tutorial", right through combat, the interface, air searches etc.

This game seems to pack quite a bit into its interface (that's where I am right now in the tut). But thankfully the UI is full of tool tips. SSG was wise there.

The impression I'm getting is that there is quite a bit of tactical micromanaging chrome in here for people who want that. The UI does look indeed polished and there seems to be a stack of user-settings to tweak how the game is managed.

SSG's Decisive Battles games always crashed with me when I tried to change screen resolution. No probs here at all.

So far, as Chris pointed out on another thread, I love the fact that I can slow the game speed to a crawl. Sh*t that scared me when I first fired the game up and planes started flying everywhere! This can be accomplished too by wheel-scrolling in the time compression box. Nice touch.

I also like the 2d transformations to the tactical naval and air-surface combat routines.

SSG's work here, has a lot of thought put into it that the Talonsoft Grigsby-Brors/Matrix 2by3 games could learn from.

Yeah, I feel that there is quite a bit of game in here and we noobs have been thought of. Give it a whirl.

Cheers,
Adam.
