Will the physical option include the box and printed manual, not just a backup cdrom?

Thanks -

Yes, all our new games now include a double-thick printed DVD box, printed CD and printed manual, all in full color.

We've never sold "just the CD" - it was previously a single-thick printed DVD box + printed CD but no manual. All games new in 2007 will come with the new package of box + CD + printed manual and we're gradually updating older games to that standard as well.

Naturally I couldn't wait and bought the download already.

Will there be any option for the fiends like me that have to self control [:D]

Just wondering if there will be an option to pay the extra $10 for a box and manual?

See now the box is an unnecessary item. Why not nix the box and all that money paid for that art and just package the cd and the printed manual? I've bought several games like this now, they just use a cardboard backing to support the CD and manaul and no printed or colorful boxes that do nothing for the game. Saves you money and saves us money in the long term. I don't need no stinkin box or box art. lol Or would this put Marc Schwabeck out of a job? hehe THis also makes it easy for us to resale games to certain individuals who will take our games in trade or credit for newer games that up to this point want the box, manual and cd. If producers started making games without boxes this would make things great for a lot of us who do tradins. I always end up tossing the boxes in the trash since they just take up space and dust.

Now this is not to say I don't need the CD jewel case. This is a must as I hate games that come in envelopes or plastic boxes that have the jewel case cd grabbers in them but, no jewel case. I have cases for my jewel cases and can organize them without them scattered all over the place. DO NOT EVER just use envelopes or huge plastic boxes for CD storage. Continue to use the jewel case thank you.
WE/I WANT 1:1 or something even 1:2 death animations in the KOIOS PANZER COMMAND SERIES don't forget Erik! ;) and Floating Paratroopers We grew up with Minor, Marginal and Decisive victories why rock the boat with Marginal, Decisive and Legendary?

I for one love game boxes, especially Matrix Games boxes, and I am waiting for the physical ordering to be possible, to have the box (and printed manual of course).
My 8 years old son loves to watch at the pictures on the boxes, and this makes him wanting to play the games [8D].

What I do not need is the CD, as I can download the game and burn it on a CD, but buying a game as a box without a CD inside would have no sense [:D].

Setting up an upgrade options for download to box is really a pretty manual and time-consuming process. We've done this in a few unusual cases, such as Forge of Freedom, where the game was released before we knew a printed manual would be available, but we don't generally do this for every release due to the extra time involved. We'll generally post on the release date with an estimate of when the physical options will be available and advise patience for those who want a printed manual.

We are also planning to make the different package options and physical timing more explicit in the store in the future, to minimize confusion.

Another Possible Option?

Erik,

Just a suggestion for yet another possible solution for what is sure to be an ongoing and nagging dilemma, whether or not the timing of the two versions of future releases is made more explicit.

In addition to your statement above, perhaps allow for those eager and overly excited brigadier generals that simply lack the the will to wait for the boxed version, by factoring in the costs to have a resource go through the motions to accommodate their requests. This way, an early adopter could still order the manual some time after the initial purchase, but instead of paying an additional $10.00 that it may have cost, they'll pay $10.00 plus the additional admin costs. As long as that figure remains reasonably less than buying an entire boxed version, customers may appreciate the additional option.

I would actually suggest holding release until both DD and Physical are ready in the future.

Then you succeed in punishing those that have no desire whatsoever for the boxed version, by artificially holding back the digital download version as soon as it's ready.

I'm for a physical version of most games as well, but I really see no need to punish those who do not want a box or manual.

How would we be punished? We wouldn't even know if or when it was ready. You can't be teased by something you don't know exists. You could argue that the Boxed version folks are being punished if the DD comes out first.

No...they (we) are not being punished.

What's the matter with the world. Can't anyone exert a little bit of control nowadays. [8|]

The boxed version generally comes out pretty soon after the DD version. I see no reason why people who don't want a box or manual should wait for the box or manual option when the game is ready to download.

Remember, I am normally a physical shipment geezer, but I don't see why DD people should wait because my option isn't available. I think the way Matrix has it is good. People wanting the DD version can get it when it's ready and people wanting the box version will have that option soon after.

If it was the other way round I would still argue that just because some people can't excercise a little self control, then there is no need for other people to wait for an option they do not want.

This post isn't directed at any "one" person...just pointing out where I personally stand with it.

By artificially delaying a release that's ready for digital distribution.

Just because you're not privy to the date when it's ready, doesn't change the fact it's being unnecessarily delayed.

You can't honestly be serious. Obviously there are more logistics involved with a physical distribution that necessitates a lengthier release cycle. I believe most rationale people appreciate this. Would you also argue that you're punishing those that desire a quality bottle of aged scotch, by making them wait when the cheaper and younger alternatives are already readily available?
