Demo

I have never played this game but it looks interesting. I like the squad tactical scale of Steel Panthers, but not the strategic/operational scale of TOAW. Is there a demo available either of the Matrix release or one of the older Talonsoft versions? Any links would be appreciated.

The gameplay is similar to SP but at platoon level. The supply rules and their effect on attack/defense, give these a feel somewhere between tactical and higher level games.

The isometric view is easier on my old eyes than SP's top down units.

Thanks for the replies. I managed to download the Rising Sun demo from the Blitz but it won't run. When you double click on the .exe file a DOS box opens then immediately closes. I will keep looking.

I usually don't tell people I don't know to buy something sight unseen, but if you liked Steel Panthers, you'll go nuts for this game.

I'd say just buy it because the Matrix Version will run in XP wth no problems (no need for DOSbox).  It's also real easy to play by email.

Go for it, you won't be disappointed. [8D]

CS is a good game , althou i prefer SP , CS is still very good. You Play scen as designed. When you play the game it feels that you are sliding the units into place and the basic tactic is simple.

1) Disrupt
2) Surround
3) Assault/Capture

The player that is most successful at the tactic will be rewarded greatly.

One very nice feature is the ablity to set you units opp fire. Opp fire is the shots your units take during the opponets turn. You have various options as to what type of unit and at what distance you want to fire at.

Different map view is also fun to play with.

I have been stung buying sight unseen a couple of times lately. The latest was the money I wasted on Theatre of War. That has made me very cautious about purchasing the game without trying it out first.

This is pretty much the virtual version of Squad Leader / Advanced Squad Leader which are the BEST tactical WWII warfare board games ever created (IMHO). If you have ever pushed the cardbard squads, AFV's and leaders of those games around the battlefield and enjoyed it, you'll love this game. And it is a whole lot less expensive then the board games.

Thanks for all the advice. Still unable to trace a working demo. However, after reading some old *very* complimentary reviews of West Front and Rising Sun I have bit the bullet and ordered the game. Downloading now. Fingers crossed I don't regret it!
