Robot looking aliens

How on earth do you kill the robot looking guys that appear to have a rocket launcher on their right shoulder (I think it's an ion cannon, but it looks like a rocket launcher). These guys are taking tons of hits before going down.

What works best for them??

You'll stand a decent chance if you have at least Plasma rifles and grenades...any weapon below these make it tough! It usually takes three Plasma rifle hits to take one down but one or two well placed plasma grenades can do the trick too.... basically use your best shooters to snap fire three plasma shots and pray or toss a few grenades. One good element of the game (like the original) is that once you research a particular alien element, you get all of the stored up equipment to use...you should be up to your wahzoo in plasma rifles, ammo, and grenades once you learn the tech...

..and if you have not been able to develop plasma tech yet, get a hold of some commanders soon!

Gas/acid grenades will help for most.
A chemogun is deadly for them if you can get close enough. Flamethrowers work well but not as good as the chemogun. Keep one in the soldiers backpack until they need it and it won't slow them down either.

Fire works VERY WELL against the mechies!

Also, the more hits you get the more XP you get, too!
