75th Pursuit

Post by el cid again »

This unit seems missing from all forms of WITP. Created on 17 Dec 1941, it was activated on 4 July 1942 - in CHINA!

The 75th FS was one of the squadrons of the 23rd FG, which evolved from the AVG.  The stock game has both the AVG and the 23rd, but CHS eliminated the components of the 23rd since one group evolves into the other.  I found that nobody had fixed the pilot database when the 23rd was eliminated, so all those 23rd pilots were going into a P-47 squadron.  I fixed it so all the 23rd's pilots go into the AVG and sent it to Andrew, along with some other errors I found.

The other squadrons of the 23rd were the 16th (briefly), the 74th and 76th.

Which may explain why I got rid of the 75th for RHS. There are also no 74th or 76th - so that is right.

And the convention is "use the first name" -

BUT - RHS had to divide the AVG - so perhaps we should use the numbers ???

Turns out that is what happened - we have 74 & 75 in one unit and 76 in the other. It is a double squadron
so as many planes as possible get the AVG slot WITHOUT running over the 50 plane limit. What we seem to have wrong is they do not upgrade to the P-51A

Yes, according to "Kereguelen's PDF" the unit was in China during the whole war. "4 july 1942 in Hengyang; 17 august 1942 in Chanyi; 20 january 1943 in Yunnani, [etc. etc.]"
