Bug v1.00: 32bit color depth

Post by MarkShot »

I am not sure if this is a general problem that can be reproduced, but I thought I would report it.

When I select 32 bit color depth my entire system goes into slideshow mode. This is despite the fact that have bound the game to only a single processor. Given this behavior it most likely has something to do video drivers and not CPU. 16 bit works just fine.

Spec:

QX6700 overclocked to 3.2GHz
XP Pro SP2
4 Gb RAM
GTX 8800

Config:

2 displays (LCD - primary, CRT - secondary)
Running in a window on the CRT
2021 - Resigned in writing as a 20+ year Matrix Beta and never looked back ...

The game only uses a single thread (except for the sound system which is a 3rd party api), so should play friendly with multiple processors (although it wont take as much advantage from them as some games). The graphics card is very recent, and one of our testers had some minor graphical glitches with a similar card (using the latest nvidia drivers at the time about 3 weeks ago). I did some reading on the forums, and it looks like nVidia are having some troubles with drivers with these new cards.
Im thinking that this will most likely be resolved with a future nVidia driver update.

I'm using the BFG model of Markshot's video card with driver version 158.22 and a C2D@3.2. I'm not seeing what he's describing, but I don't run the game in windowed mode.

Actually, looking at Mark's other posts, it seems he is running some extra map zoom ratios - some at very high ratios (which is a big memory hog). This is probably causing the problem - Mark can you confirm if you use the "Normal" zoom ratio settings that you run fine in 32bit mode?

I've tried running the game in windowed-mode, albeit on a single display, and it's acting up. I've lost the ability to scroll down and/or right with my mouse cursor. Also, the game tends to become unresponsive to other mouse inputs, clicking of buttons, and so on.

The games graphics are fine for me.

I think the 32bit thing was how it pre-renders maps in memory.

The only issue I see is that beyond 5X zoom, the cloud layer is what moves when you grab with the mouse and move something.

I am running the 97.92 drivers.
