Can't transfer certain units

Post by Al Boone »

1) Playing the Coral Sea scenario, I can't transfer certain units from Capetown to Port Moresby after initial transfer from Townsville to Capetown. These units were 20 RAAF (PBY) and 39/35 FG (P-39). The launch button lets them transfer anywhere but Port Moresby??? Is there a game limit on land base capacity?
2) Even though aircraft are shown as night capable, I assume that that only refers to attacks, not reconnaisance, since I don't seem to be able to do any night reconnaisance, for instance by night capable PBYs?
3) There seems to be an unfair advantage to knowing all enemy possible anchorages for a particular scene. It allows setting up an artificial sighting over these, followed by strikes, instead of "groping around" with searches for a potential seaplane base....
This is a great game, though nothing would beat a properly further debugged, developed and refined Uncommon Valor with a suitable, flexible and useful editor.

Re Point 1: Yes I noticed this too. I'm unsure if it is a bug but to transfer squadrons from Cooktown to Port Moresby I have to do it 1 squadron at a time with 2 squadrons always remaining non-transferable for some reason. It will always be the last 2 left at Cooktown.

During one game they all transfered fine (except for the 2 squadrons). Next game, they won't transfer at all. When you check they are just sitting idle. This is after several days???

I thought the remainder of what did not transfer was due to it being too far to Moresby. A mileage issue, apparently not.

I think there's a limit to the number of squadrons that can operate from the same airfield.
Quality has a quantity all of its own.

Where does this "I think there's a limit to the number of squadrons that can operate from the same airfield. " come from? I see nothing in the rules or any other dialogue.........

1. Start the Coral Sea scenario
2. Click on the Townsville airbase
3. Set mission to landbase transfer to Port Moresby
4. Set all planes except the catalinas and airacobras to transfer
5. Look at the launch button
6. Set the airacobras to transfer
7. Look at the launch button
8. Remove the Banshee dive bombers from the misson
9. Look at the launch button
Quality has a quantity all of its own.

Warden, it appears that you are correct, from my experiments. If I transfer 2 squadrons from PM to Cooktown, leaving 2 squadrons at PM, I am later able to switch all 8 Townsville air squadrons to PM, as opposed to only 6 transfers from Townsville without 2 PM transfers to Cooktown. This indicates that at least Port Moresby has a 10 squadron limit capacity. I did not experiment with other base capacities to see if this 10 squadron limit applied to them as well.

Hi Guys,
There are a couple of restrictions to transferring aircraft -
1. You can only transfer from a carrier to a landbase or a landbase to a landbase. Within the scope of a scenario you can't transfer a squadron to a carrier.
2. You can only transfer to an landbase so that the maximum number of squadrons operating at an landbase is 10.
3. You can only transfer floatplanes to landbase where the runway is specified as 'floatplanes only' (such as Noumea when playing the allies at Coral Sea).
