On the Fence?

Commander – Europe at War Gold is the first in a series of high level turn based strategy games. The first game spans WW2, allowing players to control the axis or allied forces through the entire war in the European Theatre.

On the Fence?

Post by Rocko911 »

I originally saw this game in Armchair General Magazine and it perked my interest. I currently have SC2 (strategic command 2) it is a good game. I would like to have a larger number of units to fight with so I am hoping Commander has this , also looking for a little more robust naval warfare. Is the game a clone of SC2 if not, what are the major differences and is the AI competent?

This game is HUGELY diffferent than sc2 but it does, like sc2, have a limited types of ubits and uses abstraction a great deal. I bouth sc2 and it is not even on the machine and I think CEAW will be for years to come.

Never played SC2 but this....I love this. Maybe it's the "Panzer General" kind of interface and simplicty.

I'm having an absolute blast playing this.

You know, not long ago I started a thread asking if games have become too complicated. Turns out that they can be challenging without the need for a degree to work things out.

This is indepth, excellent, fun to play (most important!) and I look forward to each turn.

There are four types of strategy game in my book....
  • "Just one more turn" games - these ones, you just keeping slipping closer to the next day without noticing - very, very enjoyable
  • "I wonder if I could get another turn in" games where you are aware of the time but the game wants you to play another turn - enjoyable but challenging
  • "I can't get another turn in" games where you know that if you do anothetr turn, you're going to make mistakes in your turn - challenging but enjoyable
  • "Can't be arsed" games where the turn is just too damn tedious - challenging
This is definitely in the first category!

I said to my daughter this morning "You can go on the computer in a minute whilst I go for a shower"...2 hours later she came up and reminded me I said she could go on the computer!!

The judge has got it right. Started yesterday haven't looked at anything since. I now have over 15 Pz campaign PBEM turns sitting in the inbox and meanwhile. Just survived my first winter in Russia the USA has just entered the war oil is running out not sure what Britain is up to.Moscow seems a long way off the oil further though rostov will fall soon for sure It plays simple but it aint simple. Just like Panzer General always something to puzzle out and everything matters.
