The Ending

Post by MrBoats »

SPOILER ALERT

For those who have completed the game -- don't read this if you are still fighting -- there are SPOILERS ahead... I need your opinions:

I was really let down by the apparent loss of the entire squad at the completion of the final mission. "Not Cool!" as the caveman said. I suppose I can award them all posthumous Medals of Honor, but it was a shock to see the mother ship explode and take everyone with it. Ok, ok -- it's just a game. But after putting in quite a few hours to get my folks to the "brain" I'd like to be able to at least try to get them back in the shuttle and to Earth. There ought to be a timed exit mission wherein the squad has to return to the shuttle in the face of a multitude of opponents, or at least a cut scene in which the shuttle zips past the remote camera as the mother ship explodes.

This is not to say that I won't probably play the game a few more times, but the ending seemed like it was rushed. What do you think? I am reminded of the end of Rome: Total War: 200 years of blood and intrigue leading to a "Hey, you're Emperor now -- good luck!"

Great game, disappointing ending. Thanks for letting me vent.

I totally agree.I blew the crap out of the Brain and WHAM there goes the mother ship.I wass amazed that i did'nt have a chance to get my people off the ship.Yes i only had four of them left due to some bad tactic choices but still------we worked hard to build them up and it was a disappointment that they went up with the big Mamma.-------------------I'm already playing anther game on hard this time but not really sure if i will bother with the finish or not----Course the way this game on Hard is going i might not make that far anyway.

P.s.

Gotta admit though that the Scene for the Mamma ship blowing up was pettttttty nice.

Zalandar,

That is true -- the sight of the ship exploding is pretty well done. It gives some satisfaction to the player, but knowing that the outcome will always be the same limits the replay value, for me, anyway.

It was a cool video but I too thought it sucked that your crew all died. Especially the first time thru when I killed all the aliens aboard first. (I had a heck of a time finding the brain)
As for replay value I'm on my third game and have met the third tier of aliens (Phantoms and such) and am still enjoying myself by playing slightly different styles each game. I'll probably go thru it once more time after this before moving on but I'm sure I'll come back to it someday.

Yep, the ending sucks a bit. Chaos Concept were never very good at FMV.[:D]
