Specific glitches

Post by jamo262 »

Hi Marshall

I like to keep in touch with this game and look forward to your monthly updates.

Apart from those I was wondering what sort of specific glitches or bugs you are in the process of finalising now.

For instance does the game freeze up on occasion or when it tries to do certain things or does the AI not give a decent challenge?

Im not impatient -just been following for a while and became curious.

How does your AI decide to plce its armies-according to an alogarithm or to historically strategic areas like mountains?

We're mostly correcting rules implementations such as GBR can block USA trade to nations it's at war with BUT doing so can create a war between GBR and the USA thus cutting GBR colonial trade in half. Game freezes are exceptionally rare and most have been found and fixed. We're also reviewing the AI and how bad/good it acts in the face of opportunity and difficulty. The testers have been mostly testing the rules implementations and how closely they are being followed.

Thank you

Thanks for your post and the updates, Marshall.

AI issues and test cases are tricky. I used to test AI software for a living (in the defence industry), it's an ugly business. Unfortunately what I tend to read into your statements like "We're also reviewing the AI" (and similar statements in the World in Flames game forum where they have been recently saying things like "we're nearly finished the game stuff, we just have to start on building the AI") is that the game will be a long time coming yet. That's not blind pessimism, just a professional understanding of the process.

I would typically agree with your statement about "long time coming" but in this case the AI is complete. We're just making sure that when we change a rules implementation that the AI does not cheat! Now the game could still be a long time coming BUT it won't be the AI. The AI has been playing this game for two years :-)

Thank you
