The Battle of the Atlantic began in a spectacular way on the 31 October 1939 with two simultaneous engagements
To the south a convoy was intercepted by a wolfpack and suffered heavy damage, luckily a destroyer group to the north raced to the rescue and decimated the U-Boats, meanwhile a carrier group far the north east steamed south west at flank speed and almost delivered the knockout blow.
To the north a French battleship group steaming north for no apparent reason (classified) ran straight into another wolfpack , ouch!
