CTD before the game starts. Console.txt says it is the intro video.

Post by Osnauticus »

The game crashes whenever I try to play it. From the console.txt (at the end of this post) the intro video loader is to blame. I'm playing the patched version downloaded from the Matrix games store. I basically just:

1) Downloaded
2) Installed
3) Used TrueUpdate.exe to patch.
4) Ran it (crash).

I don't get a crash log at all. The game starts, takes over the screen\mouse, the game's mouse cursor blinks on the screen for a second, and then it crashes to desktop with a standard "program has stopped working" Windows crash dialog.

Note that if I install the frankenmod on top of the vanilla game I actually get to play the game but it crashes as soon as I leave the tactical combat victory screen.

Things I've tried already:
- Redownloading the game (6 times)
- Reinstalling the game (8 times)
- Switching to windowed mode (same crash repro as the full screen)
- Changing the video settings in the ini file to the bare minimum.
- Changing the audio settings in the ini to disable sound.
- Completely uninstalling my video drivers and fresh installing the latest windows signed NVidia drivers.
- Completely uninstalling my audio drivers and fresh installing.
- Completely uninstalling DirectX and installing the latest version.
- Completely uninstalling DirectX and letting the game install the version that came with the download.
- Trying the game with\without the patch and with\without the mods (limited success up to the tactical victory crash).

I'll post my console dump and dxdiag in this post. I know you guys don't give refunds but if I can't resolve the situation somehow I'm going to be kind of upset. [:(] From the little of the game I got to play I was enjoying it.

I can also get a crash dump if it will help. From the console dump it looks to have something to do with the intro video (which may also explain the tactical combat issue). Note that I'm able to play intro.ogg in other applications (WMP and DirectPlay) just fine without any issues and it's in the right place. I'm fairly certain it isn't corrupted.

Have the developers been informed about this bug? Do I have any hope of a resolution or should I just forget about it?

Doubt it's a bug. I've played it for hours and hours with no glitches whatsoever. Sounds like something's screwed in your computer.

It's already been attached to the original post (it's named differently than usually because I was just outputting to the console).

I don't doubt it's machine specific, but that doesn't stop the game from crashing. Also, since it's crashing when it loads .ogg files and I've tested that .ogg file in DirectPlay and it ran fine I'd say the game is doing something incorrect to prompt the crash.

Are the crashes on this board being worked on or is this game abandonware already?
