Unable to import schedule

Post by 33sherman »

I'm running a historical association, and I was able to import schedules up through 1969. For some reason when the Pilots became the Brewers I was no longer able to import retrosheet schedules.

I know the team abbreviations need to be chagned in the .psa file, and I've done this (in fact, when I try to import I get the first pop-up that say, "Congratulations, this appears to be compatible, etc." but then the next pop-up says 'unable to import.' Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere? Anyone else have this problem?

Did you change the Milwaukee Brewers team abbrev to ML4 for 1970 season under ForceLahman column in the Teams table?

A-ha! No, I changed it to MIL, because that's what I read in the schedule file...I will try this again when I get home.

Utility program I wrote. Just for the purpose of quickly checking (at the beginning of each season) whether I needed to update any teams abbrev or ballpark before the first game of the season. Normally, if no teams moved and it is not an expansion year, then there will be no need to update the team abbrev.

However, I still check the team ballparks before each season - and if a ballpark changed in mid-season it will report that also (lf you look at the Cincinnati Reds for 1970 in the above graphic, it says at some point in the 1970 season they changed parks from Crosley Field to Riverfront Stadium). As I house rule, I change stadiums at July 1st when it reports a change during the season like that. Otherwise, I change stadiums at the beginning of a season if a change is needed.

The Regions information at the top right is useful if a team is moved from one city to another.

The grid at the very bottom shows the current state of "your" association. Right now, my association is in the 1995 season. If I needed to make a change to any team abbrev or Regions, I can change it by editing it in the bottom grid. Beats having to load up MS Access all the time. However, any ballpark changes are done inside PureSim.

I am still developing and debugging the utility at this point. Careful debugging. There are things you don't want to edit as it could really srew up an association big time if something gets edited thats not suppose too.

When changing team abbrev, match it to the teamID column in the Teams table of the Lahmanps.mdb database (located in the PureSim root directory) according to whatever year your association is at. This way you don't need to touch or edit the retrosheet schedules every year. As long as the team abbrev match between your association and the Lahman database each season, PureSim will auto-detect and import the retrosheet schedules.

Milwaukee, it has been my experience, is particularly troublesome when it comes to keeping tabs on its team abbrev and their various changes. But, then if you think about it, it kindly makes since. Look at how often they have changed over their franchise:

Milwaukee Braves (NL)
No Franchise
Milwaukee Brewers (AL West)
Milwaukee Brewers (AL East)
Milwaukee Brewers (AL Central)
Milwaukee Brewers (NL Central)

I mean these guys have been bounced around like a ping pong ball. The good news for you 33Sherman, is that you won't have to worry about another Milwaukee abbrev change until 1998. Thats when it becomes "MIL". Of course, then theres always the Angels.......CAL, ANA, LAA....arrrggghhhh :)

It worked! Thanks again Crash, the Lahman.mdb was the missing link (it was the Brewers that were doing me in).

The utility Crash described is exactly what I need before I hit the 1953 season (which is still 6 years away in my association). Looks great. [&o]

If I get to 1953 before this utility is ready I'll wait for it.
