Is this a bug?

Commander – Europe at War Gold is the first in a series of high level turn based strategy games. The first game spans WW2, allowing players to control the axis or allied forces through the entire war in the European Theatre.

Is this a bug?

Post by JudgeDredd »

I was about to attack a Russian unit with my Ju-87 bombers and suddenly realised they were going to suffer a -20% penalty for attacking across a water feature and -10% for attacking a dug in unit (numbers may be different to actual)

I can understand the dug in part....but the water feature should not affect an air attack, should it?

Has to be a bug , unless some mysterious water sprites attack the planes on their way over. [:D]

Sounds like a product of keeping to a simple game system, just learn to live with it plus the stukas are less effective because the river stops efficient recce and identification of targets [:)]

? Rivers were and still are considered death traps from aviation attacks.  It is a natural choke point for land units and make for easy pickings.

I don't know if you are agreeing with me and pointing out a known fact, or whether you misunderstood my post...so I will just clarify...

Tactical bombardment seems to suffer a -20% (or thereabouts) penalty for attacking across water...not a 20% increase...a 20% penalty

But your point is a good one, generally speaking tactical bombardment should get an attack bonus at attacking across river hexes

River penalty is -30%
which suggests you are mixing up the terrain penalty icon with the river penalty icon. The only things with -20% is City and Swamp so I guess you attacked a City Unit with the tact bomber?

I had come out the game and couldn't remember the exact details...seems I may have got my facts muddled.

I am sorry though. If I'm going to ask if something is a bug or not, I should get my facts straight. [:-]

I will look again tonight and give a more exact answer. [;)]
