Perhaps Some Additional Unit Types

Commander – Europe at War Gold is the first in a series of high level turn based strategy games. The first game spans WW2, allowing players to control the axis or allied forces through the entire war in the European Theatre.

Perhaps Some Additional Unit Types

Post by Rocko911 »

Some units I would like to see added:
1) Airborne Units
2) Light Armor
3) Artillery
4) V1 & V2(research result) Rockets to hit England
Just a thought on the above, but it would add some nice gameplay and strategy based upon what you build and counter build against a competitor.

V1 V2 were Rockets launched at the British Isles during the war. Artillery represented by an actual unit not some number enhancement of standard infantry. Light armor were widely used for fast long range recon. Cheers [:)]

V1 and V2 were very inefficient and had no real military value. Artillery is a good one, the Soviets had HUGE artillery forces. The other combatents generally had artillery as part of another formation.

Light Armor, I just do not see a need for it at the level of this game. Airborne of somekind would be nice, BUT while 3 divisions and an independent Brigade were dropped on 2 occasions, I do not see how Airborne can work as a unit in a game with Corps sized units.

Interesting ideas though.

A mountain Corps is another idea. And the Soviets used cavalry Corps through most of the war.
Favoritism is alive and well here.

It would be good in the future to maybe utilize something like HOI had-attached "brigades". Instead of ahistorical masses of artillery or light tanks (at this scale, it's crazed), there could be "chrome" added to the existing corps and tank groups. What this translates to would be akin to what we have for generals now, added bonuses for attack, defense, movement etc.

The alternative is to have smaller scale units that exist independently, which requires stacking.

Either way, it would make the individual units a bit more interesting (that and giving them some kind of numerical designation/name)

This makes sense to me...something you can attach to the units.

This sounds like a good idea as the mechanisms to do it are already in the game. It would also remove the need for stacking as the extra resources are attached to a individual corps. I would image a unit like a commander but with no enhancement radius and additional defence/attack values.

Thinks, you could do this already by modifying the commander scripts??

I was wondering that, meself Dave. There is a modding thread that has opened up at Slitherine, but one must register. We might derive some answers there.

The question is if we can tie the idea of attached units to research as well. Tank destroyers for instance- Early war Sig's swapped out for Marders and the like. Otherwise it could just serve as a generic type of unit.

Initially i was thinking of something generic, like a commander with the honorific guards or 'SS'. Just one or two per side so you can have your SS panzer corps or guards tank army. This would be good for colour.

I agree that attached brigades like HOI2 might be a sound idea.  Is there any art. component currently in the game?  (don't have it yet)

There would need to be a special class of leader that did not have a influence radius, otherwise you could use the same procedures as using commanders.
