Joint carrier/land strikes?

CCAW manual talks of making special strikes beyond the normal range of carrier wings by using friendly airfields to refuel the planes during the operation provided that there will be adequate daylight. Are there any such provisions in CAW for such a thing?

See the green box that says transfer. That's the option to refuel at a friendly base if available and return to the carrier before sunset.

Wow, did the Japanese stage strike a/c that way? I'd think that it would've caused them some serious logistical headaches (at the forward airfield). Hats off to SSG for some nifty work, there, and it's all done in 16-bit, crash-and-burn!

Well, I have to say that CCAW has proven to be wonderfully stable.

Most of the older DOS games I play are when you compare them to newer Windows. I do remember DOS games having problems: machine lock ups or crashes where the memory would get trashed and the monitor would be flashing with multi-colored garbage (after the video buffer got overwritten). However, the games I am playing have none of this. I suspect they weren't only designed by better designers, but they were programmed and tested by better than average developers.

I read in one of the topics around here that this will be added to the new CAW in a future patch.

Yes the Japanese did actually try to stage strikes this way during the Battle of Leyte Gulf and during the Battle of the Philippines Sea. In both operations the aircraft would take off from land bases, hit the empty (or nearly empty) carrires get gas and then go on to hit the American task forces.

It's not implemented in this release, but we will get around to doing it at some stage, so we can do scenarios like the Doolittle raid.
