Airfield Questions

Post by Icedawg »

Could anyone tell me what effect, if any, damage, size and type have on airfields? I don't think the manual mentions anything about these variables, but I believe I am starting to catch on to their effects. If anyone could confirm or clarify these points for me that would be great.

First off, I THINK damage slows down the refueling/rearming process. I've had PM and Henderson Field take some slight to moderate damage (3-5 of the damage bars changed from green to orange) and the turn around time for recently landed aircraft seemed kind of long. Is this actually the case, or was my impatience just getting the better of me?

Secondly, it seems as though larger airfields and "all weather" airfields seem to refuel, rearm and repair planes a bit quicker then their small and "dirt" counterparts. Again, is this actually the case, or am I just doing a poor job estimating these times during game play?

Thirdly, do larger and "all weather" airfields produce fewer ops losses than small and "dirt" airfields? It seems as though they should yield fewer crashes on landing and takeoff, but I haven't noticed any apparent effect thus far.

Lastly, are "dirt" airfields rendered non-functional (or less functional) by bad weather (muddy runways are probably tough to use)? It seems as though they should be. After all, why would the game designers bother to name one category of airfields "all weather" if others weren't limited by weather?

I have some other questions, but they're not all that relevant to these, so I'll put them in another thread.

All good questions, and I don't know all the answers, but I do that damage to airfields temporarily reduces their spot number, which would then increase the turn around time of any strikes from that airfield.
