partisons silliness

Commander – Europe at War Gold is the first in a series of high level turn based strategy games. The first game spans WW2, allowing players to control the axis or allied forces through the entire war in the European Theatre.

partisons silliness

Post by freeboy »

While I understand the partisans where added probably for "flavor" and to make the game a challenge for the German player, having anti allied partisans appear is somewhat non historical, who would supply them as the third reich is falling.. and partisans in ITALLY! my second grief after the trains teleporter issue.

Yep .. In 1939 the french armor and a few garisons moved from maginot towards Munich ...
When he retreated the french still owned territory in germany .. next turn he got a partisan unit in the mountains in south Germany .. totally unreal ... and a pain as low countries are not even invaded yet .. Does this mean that If I go into france and try not to conquer france that I will get partisans to fight france .. or maybe this is a german partisan ..????

The "trains teleporting"  is the equivalent of Strategic Redploy in the old 3rd Reich game

Yeah, but even then you couldn't do it into a area the was completely cutoff. Right now being able to "teleport" into a pocket next to enemy units is kind of a stretch....
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well preserved body,
but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming "WOW, what a ride!"

If the enemy have not cut the railway it seems fair enough.

no, the railwaus are cut and u have say only moscow and the six hex around it  taken as the German invader.. Unlce joes troops are in control of the entire country save Moscow, unlikely as that may be. and whamo, six brand newe uber troops teleported all the way across the miles from the fatherland into Moscow, even though the border is in poland and hundreds of miles and troops are interveining!

I did read somewhere that units can be transported into a city even if it's surrounded. I thought they might've got it confused with troops being deployed there from the force pool...which may still be the case?

Are you saying you can rail deploy a unit to a city that is completely cut off? That should not be possible.

The force pool does not distinguish where the troops are being trained, there are no Wehrkries so the problem with deploying new units into a pocket is real.

But moscow is not a wehrkrie so the problem lies with strategic rail movement.

there needs to be a test for the validity of a target hex, is it reachable from the start position of the railing unit

should be possible to do.

Can you just clarify that it is possible to rail move to a hex that is completely cut off from the source hex? I'm not clear if this is what you are saying.

You are allowed to edploy in a pocket but only one unit per turn per city to represent local recruitment & production.

OK I just ran a test of the 1941 scenario

advanced and took moscow

germans could rail to and from there, this is OK

isolated moscow from rest of german line.

Germans in Moscow now out of supply and NO rail movement into or out of the pocket!

So there is no problem and the game is working as expected. [:)]

There were german patisan units, called Wolverines but only few went really into action as nazism lost it "attarction" and the western allies were behaving civilized unlike the russians. Where anti-allied partisans were succesful were the Baltic countries and Ukraine.

Are partisan units actually represented on the map? If they are I haven't seen any.

Thank you. I kept seeing those messages but didn't spot any changes. I guess they keep you honest so that you must garrison conquored cities yourself.

If there is one thing which irritates me is bl**dy partisans in a game. I want to be a front commander, not a rear area security general. If you play PBEM you will find that there are not enough troops to man the front lines, never mind chasing those partisan idiots all over the map. in a strategic level game there is even less reason for having them. It would be much more logical to just deduct some production points for ungarrisoned cities. Ok partisans were in WW2 but they did not tie down large numbers of troops until late war. Then there is a design issue, partisans should NOT appear as full strength corps, maybe garrison sized but no better.

They are as much of a nuisance as the uber allied navies which sink all the u-boats then spend the entire war shore bombarding and launching air strikes from those damm carriers, and there is nothing the axis can do to counter it, you can't afford to build u-boats and you can't afford to build air to hit the ships. Thinks me this game is designed for play against the AI.
