What do PI help you? What do you achieve by getting it?
Will it improve your situation? Is it worth it?

Iwo is now a problem, but PzB has a lot of forces there, he needs to supply them. Bomb his bases there and interdict his convoys. It is possible to starve him out there, just try it.
His 2300 AV will get less and less, when his forces run out of supplies.
You need to get lots of supply hits and then you will be able to take Iwo or Bonin. It will be less losses and less risk than fighting in PI.
If you like what I said love me,if you dislike what I say ignore me!

I understand you reasoning Andy but Frank does have an point here.

What do you achieve in terms of victory with Luzon? Basically you get a lot of bases which needs to be guarded etc.

What about Bonin's does PzB have as strong garrisons there as he does in Iwo??? Meaning that if either of these bases should fall you could use your 4E/Medium bombers againts him.

Thus relieiving your B29's for other objectives.

The problem with Iwo and Bonin is that is is a long drawn out campaign it will take MONTHS.

If I commit everything to it i.e. 7,000 AV it would take months of total bombing bombardments and attrtion to succeed you are talking a long campaign with no air organic support B24's form Marcus and B29's from Wake will not shut it down I need more AF's to do that

All the time PZB will send resupply convoys, HL Kamis etc etc he has so many engineers on both islands that keeping the AF suppressed will be impossible.

It become a running sore I will still be fighting there at Christmas and my carriers will continue to pick up sys damage because despite having more troops on the island PZB will be the only one with the AF so raids from Marianas and HL Kamis operating from Iwo and Bonin will crucify me.

The fact is WITP does not handle bib battles recognising that I am choosing not to pour good money after bad.

Re Franks Questions I do understand them

What do PI help you?

Air fields for my overwhelming LBA to get involved and take the pressure off the fleet.
Suppose I take the PI and THEN base 800 B29's in PI and start bombing Iwo now that would keep the AF shut !!!!
Time to allow the 6 Fleet Carriers in dry dock to finish repairs
Unites my eastern and western armies
Allows me to take B29's off of wake where they operate sub opimally and put them onto a level 7 AF where they can really get to work.
Completes the ring around HI SEA - PI - Wake

I do think its worth it.

Dont forget I do NOT believe that the PI are well garrisoned now this isnt like it was 4 months ago.

PZB pulled a lot of force out of Luzon to reiforce SEA (that my carriers savaged [:D][:D][:D])

And then he pulled out some more.

Yes he will have level 9 forts but has a lot of ground to cover once I get a single AF I can roll him up quickly perhaps not taking Manila and the south but the AF's in the NE corner they are doable he has only got onre or two units in each base I expect perhaps 2 - 3 Divs in total north of Manila

I will feint towards Formosa/Okinawa until I am 2 - 3 days steaming from the PI and then I will go for it.

Good luck, you will need it.
I do not think you have a chance, but maybe your plan works.

Your assumptions are probably correct. Luzon is doable but you'll have to secure at least one level 4 AF asap. What about one of the other islands in the Philippine archipelago? Is there any unoccupied island that you could take in advance? You'll need such a base for LRCAP and ground support.

Hmm not really my Paras are a little shot at present.

There are 6 AF's within 5 Hexes of my principle target Using round the clock Superforts from Singapore/Hue/Banja and Wasile i think I can temporarily close all those AF's while B24's attempt to close peripheral AF's

IF I can close these 6 AF's for a few days PZB cannot deploy Kamis in force or Zeroes or top interceptors to escort bombers I 'should' be able to secure a base quickly

Its not going to be easy but I think I can do it especially using Carier based fighters to sweep them all in advance and then my Helldivers, Wildcats and Avangers can concentrate of ground unit suppression.

if you need a base to secure LBA fighter protection, may i suggest Batan Is instead of Luzon.

Batan can probably be taken in one turn, with an automatic shock attack on the atoll, providing you an instant airbase. You won't have to worry about a large garrison after its taken (unlike Luzon).

Once Batan is taken, you will then be able to provide LRCAP for an Naha invasion (with P38's and P51's), and pound the base with 2E bombers, B24's and Fighter bombers. Also HL Kami's won't be a problem with P38's and P51's providing cover

I think Luzon might end up entangling you in another set of problems. It seems that what the posters above said would work the best for you. Focus on one thing and do not relent until you get it. Bonins seem the best strategic objective that you need. Resources are already denied to PzB and other than that your Luzon invasion might not bring you much additional benefit.

Anyhow, good luck it seems your mind is firmly set!!

Good luck Andy. I stop by rarely and your AAR is about the only thing I try to read up on a bit. I see John is still up to his many tricks. He has always been good, he regularly beat me at UV. You did go in a different direction that I was headed, it is your game and you are still fighting the good fight. I find it depressing that you are losing because Japan is outproducing the USA. It really does seem there is some bad design and/or implementation here.

I will offer this to all others, it is impossible for most to fully understand Andys position. I played this game for about 7 months of game time and I have a problem graping all of Andys problems. The Allies lost a lot of units, Air, Naval, and Ground. Not having the Brits pushing from India makes his job very hard.

Anyway, off the soapbox and back into obscurity.

Always welcome Nomad

I estimated the allies lost about 1 Corps worth of troops on Java and most of the remnant RN RAN fleet and a LOT of USN troops

ADavidB or Wobbly made a moral decision not to pull fragments out of Karachi which I respect but I wish they had been less altruistic.

I have enough replacements in the pool to have rebuilt 2 - 3 Divs of India/Brit troops in Australia not to mention the Armoured Bdes or Aviaition Regts!!!

But they didnt so we are where we are
