ACW - Opinion about purchase

AGEOD’S American Civil War - The Blue and the Gray is a historical operational strategy game with a simultaneous turn-based engine (WEGO system) that places players at the head of the USA or CSA during the American Civil War (1861-1865).

ACW - Opinion about purchase

Post by maxstrike »

Seeing the question pop up - "Should I buy this game?". The simple answer is YES. BoA was good, but ACW feels like you are commanding armies in the war.

In my opinion the atmosphere, level of detail, style of play, artwork and strategic options are excellent. Though as in all games of this scope there are a few things here and there I would change if I was the designer, but that's my personnel preferences creeping in.

I expect ACW will be on my hard drive for years alongside TOAW, WiTP and the still satisfying Diablo II.

AACW is a must buy
McClellan asked, "What troops are those fighting in the Pike?"
Hooker replied, "[Brigadier] General Gibbon's brigade of Western men."
McClellan stated, "They must be made of iron."

I bought Forge of Freedom and really could not get into it. I felt like there was no excitement or true control. I found it to be too abstract. I wonder if anyone else can help me compare how this is better. Thanks

There was today a really nice review posted on the Wargamer by Will Trotter. Very impressive game. I'm sold.

I have to echo the sentiments above. Excellent game.

And the support by AGEOD is simply unrivalled in the business!

Will probably buy this, but not until I can get a hard copy as well. No more just buying downloads for me.

Your quick POCUS! Didn't even give me time to make my own correction! There is an example of the responsiveness and attention to detail that is representative of "AGEOD's" support!

I am curious, Twotribes, why you say this? I have had bought only one download and had certain problems. Others swear by it. What is your experience?

I lose or don't keep my order number and my cards change. I have about 4 games I can't play now because all I did is buy the download. I will in the future only buy both.

Didn't Erik say he would sort it for you if you e-mailed Matrix with your details?

G'day all, I have had this game since early June and played it almost every day since. It is one of those, "just one more turn games", and you find yourself well into the small hours of the morning, before giving it up. An example of this was the other day, when had decided to take Richmond, unfortunately things didn't go to plan, but was determine to take Richmond before going to bed. So over many turns I created a new army, several corps and many divisions, and systematically took control of every region surrounding Richmond and cutting its defending army's supply. I then assaulted the capital and crushed a sizable CSA army. How pleasing. I was happy, Lincoln was happy, but my wife was really pissed when I put my cold feet on her when finally crawled into bed. [:D]
I have bought several games this year from matrixgames, some really have disappointed me, some have been ok, but none have grabbed me the way AACW have.
Why? Well briefly, but not necessarily in order, the map simply beautiful, the graphics in general are great. love the unit representations. The strategy in depth but simple. I enjoyed playing this game even when I didn't have a clue what I was doing. Great manual explains the game well, and great support from the devs, they listen they consider they change. Finally because of it historic flavour, I have learnt a lot more about the ACW since I have had this game, because of the characters and places, I have constantly referred to Wikipedia and other search engines to gain as much info as I can on the diferent characters, places, events and battles. IMHO this game is worth every buck u pay for it.

What I do is download, then burn the file to a cd. I then tape on it the serial number cut from the confirmation e-mail. The license agreement does allow you to make a backup cd, so there's nothing improper here.
