Commander – Europe at War Gold is the first in a series of high level turn based strategy games. The first game spans WW2, allowing players to control the axis or allied forces through the entire war in the European Theatre.

Agree with all above.... really need a replay....

but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming "WOW, what a ride!"

Let me just get this straight-can you not see your enemy moves at all? Or can you just not repeat it?  I suppose if you really needed to see it again you could exit from your current game and reload the save game file again-couldn't you?

You can't see it at all. All you get is the final state of the game after your opponents move.

Woah. That is the most asinine thing I've ever heard of. Who ever heard of a game where you can't see what your opponent is doing.

You can play a PBEM without FoW and then you will be able to see the enemy. In fact, some ppl have said the game works well without FoW. For the super players, TcpIP is preferred though and without any firewall problems the TcpIP is stable. The default option in game is in fact FoW=OFF.

We have not been able to make all optional rules work for all game modes (hotseat, pbem, tcpip) obviously but will try to solve that in a patch

If you are playing v human FOW is pretty much essential otherwise your strategies will be distorted by seeing things that you could not historically see.

TCPIP play is not available to all players and even without any firewall problem the jury is still out on its stability. I tried starting a 1941 scenario yesterday and it crashed after the first player turn. Another try or so and if the problem recurs the game will probably be added to the 'interesting but not finished' pile, pending fixing the TCP and adding PBEM replay.

I started 2 PBEM games but they just trailed off after a few turns. I reckon people were not happy with being blind at what is going on.

Yeah PBEM is essential for me.  TCPIP is ok I guess if you're playing an hour long game (or only 20 minutes!) like Company of Heroes.

TCPIP is OK for longer play as well. Either player can save the game at anytime during his turn and you get to choose your own filename, which PBEM does not let you do.

Even if you saved the game you can continue your turn, plus there is a auto save when you hit the end button.

In the recent game I played both players were doing saves at important points in their turn which is good if your connection fails because you dont need to replay an entire turn. to restart a saved game the saver must be the host, which might be a problem for some people, however there must be some software out there to allow play via a lan fileserver.

TCPIP can be fast too, during quiet periods we were averaging 6 complete game turns per hour.

And what about .... say 1 action point for naval units and so forth ... this means a guy can't just boot guys by you ....
oh that's nice I just saw the entire Italian fleet go by ... loaded to the gills w trn's ..
These trn' are hard enough to kill .. let alone if they are screened when they land .. especially by subs .... [:-]
Fait accompli ... once they are in position to land .. u r done .. can't even get at em ..!!
all this takes for an invasion to succeed is load up a couple of garrisons .. send em into the med and they do the spottin for ya .. at 20 pp .. that's cheap compared to taking hits on your pointy unts .. and they might survive ... when the loathsome allied player sees your fleet and such .. He will go after the guys landing .. not the guys in the middle of the Med ..
and a UK CVN battlegroup is right there ...
CVN
2 BB .. DD .. 3 subs .. some air units in range .. and no attack .. ok .. you go girl ..
