Second Battle of Kharkov 1942

Post by Widell »

Sort of a different AAR, but I couldn't resist doing it this way once I saw what was possible [:D]. The Axis won a significant victory after I overcommited in a few areas in the last 48 hours of the battle. My opponent has asked to be anonymous, so he'll have to step forward himself if he so prefers. I am also working on a written AAR, but I am a few turns behind on that. Will post the link here once I get some time off from work

Please right click and download the movie. I may not be able to keep it on the server indefinitely, so enjoy it while it lasts

Nice movie - I had to play it silent at work, but I'll check out the sound (is there any sound??) at home later.

Very nicely done. Very entertaining.
To repeat history in a game is to be predictable.

Ah yes - there is sound after all!! :)

Very nicely done.  I have to add one critique tho - without a commentary it is quite difficult (for me at least) to follow the action and appreciate what's going on.

So not an 11 from me sorry - "only" a 9.5 [&o][&o]

[:)] Thanks for the feedback. I was only playing around with Moviemaker instead of writing the AAR, hence the lack of commentary as it was evident for me that I was loosing. Managed to avoid total humiliation by a significant retreat in the final turns. Will post the complete AAR later on as I get some time to finish it up. BTW, the music was from this place if anyone is interested

Complete is AAR now available for download here. It is about a 6MB download so you are prepared for that....The last three days are not so well described as they where mostly about the Soviets retreating to avoid being trapped

I also added a few proposals to make the scenario more enjoyable for PBEM, but all in all I think it was fun. Specially you may want to consider the scenario when you have an inexperienced player (Germans) facing an experienced one (Soviets) when this scenario may become very interesting and challenging. In this case when the two players where both on the same (average?) level of TOAW, it is very hard to achieve a victory as the Soviets

All feedback is welcome, as usual. Enjoy!

That is as good as an AAR can get! Reads like an actual historic account... great presentation as well!

AAR reads like a book!! Hope you will have more to offer.

Thanks for the positive words. My ego is having free drinks on the porch [;)] - I am right now caught in a number of "projects", a game vs the AI of HoI2-DD with a corresponding AAR, trying to crunch some code for OTWG and another (Hockey Sim) open source project. None of this is going really well since real life during summer seems to take up so much more time...

I'd consider another TOAW PBEM in a month or two when the summer is ending. I need the AAR to keep focused on the overall goals of the battle(s) and not just click away, so whatever will happen, there will be more AAR's. Meanwhile, here's another vs the AI that I posted here before the release of TOAW III -> Red Storm at Fulda 1955. Download is slightly below 4MB
