Was the label for Truk added by hand? It's kinda mispelled :)

I was just joshin ya a little... the effort is greatly appreciated.

Looking at that big map all I can think of is Avalon Hill's Flat Top game board all folded out. I loved that game but it lacked a campaign.

Flattop

Post by bradfordkay »

Yeah, Flattop so far has been the best game ever produced on this subject matter. It was originally released by Battleline Games, and later purchased by Avalon Hill. I can recall many epic games of Flattop during my college years. It didn't have a campaign game, but I can't recall finishing too many board game campaign games over the years (I think that the kitty anti-literacy campaign includes board wargames), so I never felt that was a weakness of that particualr game. My hopes are that UV will supplant Flattop as the premier WW2 carrier wargame.

map from WITP

Post by 11Bravo »

http://www.matrixgames.com/insidemg/devshots_inside.php

This wasn't listed as a screenshot on the WITP page, but I found it on the Game Recon section of the Matrix page. :)

What kind of map projection is it based on? Doesn't look Mercator...maybe Azimuthal Equidistant centered on Truk?

There's only one problem with a map like that.......you need a great game like WITP to play on it. As if waiting for UV wasn't hard enough!!!

This map is making me hope the end of the year comes real soon!! The tech jump from the old Pac-war to Witp is stunning.

The map goes up another 22 hexes and Truk is there. For the screenshot we are just letting you know that there is still 22 hexes from were the screenshot stops to play in.

Excellent! This brings to mind a question;

When you send ships back to Pearl, or Japan, do they just disappear, or do they physically travel to a map edge somewhere, and exit.?

No, they just seem to disappear. They have to be out a TF before they can be sent. They don't seem to require any escort.

Likewise, when the come back they just reappear in port.

beautiful maps!

Post by brisd »

Those are incredible maps! I hope that scale is kept for the new WITP, though I think the top 10 and bottom 10 rows of hexes could be sacrificed without affecting gameplay (operations at Barrow, Alaska?!!) Also hope you design the game with those of us with high end systems in mind. 200Mhz and 2MB video cards are very obsolete. You can build a fab AMD Duron or Athlon kickin' Intel's a$$ system for nothing these days. I run screen resolutions of 1280X1024 on a 17.4" Planar LCD digital monitor and just saved the big Pacific game map as background - OH Baby! that is so sweet...

The WITP map is an early version of the map. We are not expecting to change the scale. In full res it is 5000x6000 pixels.

If you think you need a high end machine to play, you should try editing that sucker :D

We should be able to show you a newer version of the WITP map in the near future.
