"old" BTR - AAR

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

"old" BTR - AAR

Post by Hortlund »

I figured Id play a game of BTR while Im waiting for the new game.

Its been years since I played this the last time, so I suppose Im going to be a bit rusty during the first days. We'll see what happens.

Ive highlighted the fields with Luftwaffe-units on them. I wont move anything today, since this is the first day on the job for me...the new Luftwaffe commander...

Judging from the radio chatter it looks like a big day in Italy. Scattered clouds over France, and not too much going on on the radio. I figure this is a good time to send up a couple of patrols over southern Italy. Two Italian Squadrons are to patrol south of Naples and two south of Bari. I dont want to committ too much already at this early hour, but at the same time, I dont want to get caught with my pants down either.

Crap. Its really been a while since I played this game.

I totally forgot how fast the raids come in.

Here is a screenshot of me losing control over todays airbattle over Italy. I have just ordered the patrol south of Naples to intercept a raid heading north, and the patrol south of Bari to intercept another raid.

Four allied raids went unscatched because they took off from Sicily and bombed southern Italy.

The misery that is France.

Im going to be surprised if Im still commanding the Luftwaffe in 24 hours. I have totally messed everything up today. I had no fighter patrols to cover the radar stations at the coast. I have managed to intercept almost all bombing missions on their way home instead of on their way to target. Amazingly enough Ive got a positive kill-tally, but thats about it.

Here we see the 24 Fw 190s of I/JG 1 bouncing an enemy raid off Holland. The attack resulted in two kills and two damaged B-25s.

I believe this is the main effort of the day. Naturally I had already committed my airborne patrols when I spotted it. You can see the two units off on a wild goosechase over the channel, chasing empty fighterbombers which they will never catch *sigh*

So instead Ive been forced to scramble everything including the kitchen sink up north. Well, thats not true, Im keeping the night-fighters on the ground. Got to let the lads sleep.

Notice how my losses have gone up btw? That is because I, Hortlund, command-genius of the Luftwaffe, lost 12 Me 109s to STRAFING in Italy. Oh the infamy. I cant even get my planes off the ground.

Melee over Holland.

The Me 110G2s are proving to be really good bomber killers. Although they are very vunerable to the escorts.

Results of the day.

Its important to note that of the Me 109G6 losses, about 20 of those comes from strafing losses in Italy. Same with about 15-20 assorted Italian fighters.

I am very pleased with the B17 losses I managed to inflict on the allies. Those will hurt.

I always had a yardstick of the B17 to Me109G6 loss ratio. Whomever was doing better was probably winning. It's a bit of a fudge, with the 2 B17 models in play, but it worked for me...

Day 2

Moved some light flak to the channel radar stations. One of the stations were hit yesterday and is out of commission today. I cant afford to lose these.

Heavy cloudcover all over France and Germany, aswell as in Italy.

Looks like a quiet day on the west front. In Italy however, radio chatter indicates that there will be some activity. I decide to scramble a few patrols not to get caught napping again.

Turns out to be a busy day over Italy. Very hard to catch all the fighter bombers before they reach their targets.

Radio chatter over England convinces me to launch several patrols to the channel-area.

Turns out to be a busy day over France too afterall.

Its somewhat surprising to see that the Italian fighters have a kill/loss ratio of something like 3-1, while the Luftwaffe fighters are struggling to get 1-1.

Sounded like a good idea, so I started one as well. No joke about forgettinghow fast the raids come in.

in the Med it can really be a pain, as the range can be close and the delay can be high

Please forgive me for being a newb here. I just found this new BTR game mentioned in Matrix and started reading the threads. I am very interested in WWII air war strategic/tactical games. This "Old BTR" you are talking about here, this game is out in production? Where can I purchase this game. It looks very interesting.

Many years ago I had that old "Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe", was one of the first air games I had. I really enjoyed the strategic aspect of their campaign game it came with. Being a long time avid board gamer I have looked around a bit over the years for something like this game but didnt see anything. Guess I got busy and missed them. Any info on what games and where to get them that are like this game I would very much appreciate hearing about.

I dont want to wait until 2008 or later for this to come out to the market. I would like to do something now.

Later,
KayBay

OK,
Thank you very much. [8D]

I will start checking around for it.

Do you guys have any estimate as to when the new "Matirx Version" might be out? I have several Matrix version games. I really like how you make good games better.
