AI and Commanders

Commander – Europe at War Gold is the first in a series of high level turn based strategy games. The first game spans WW2, allowing players to control the axis or allied forces through the entire war in the European Theatre.

AI and Commanders

Another issue I noticed with the AI is its lack of commanders. I've been battling the AI Axis for some time (game is in late '42), and I can't recall seeing any commanders attached to the AI units.

Good question, does the AI purchase and use commanders? I would think there is complex logic involved in deciding which commander and where to put him.

Ah you have discovered the problem with the AI not going to Egypt they simply cant find a commander willing to make the trip.

Its true I never noticed any AI units with commanders..maybe its not suppose to show them on the screen? Maybe the AI doesnt "see" my commanders?

I Dunno .. What I do know is that .....
You have to play with OIL ...!! The Oil rules need some flex though ..
In the meantime I find Manstein and Rommel can cover pretty much the whole front in the early stages of 1941 .....
They are a huge benefit to the Axis ... and increase all troops .. Just what the Doc ordered when you are watching your Oil consumption ...

Those commanders would cost you over 200pp, how can you afford it?
 
I think a Kluge or similar at half the cost is better value with 60% of the advantage of a Manstein

You gotta build proper .. not easy but it's still 1941 .. pretty early in the game .. Oil is off though ... they only take 1 turn to come on so instead of building more units for east front .. I build them .. same prod is being used ..
My 2 10 strength tanks w Manstein and Rommel have been attacking full strength russian garrison corps in the 1st 3 turns in Russia ...
They are hitting at 12 - 1 and 13 - 1 .. wiping them out for no losses ... they are operating at effeciency levels of 85 - 90%
I am playing against Yohan .. seems like a decent player ...[;)]
I have caused 1.8 Mil russian casualties and destroyed 2300 tanks in 3 turns .. and have not suffered very many casualties .. lighter than expected ..
I have been able to replace my losses and still build 1 or so units a turn ...
Mind you .. I went into USSR with

OOB Wehrmacht .. Garmany .. around 60 Full Corps ..!![:D]
Manstein and Rommel ..
10 Arm Corps
11 Ger Inf Corps
11 Ger Mot Corps
2 Ger Tac .. 3 Ger Ftr ..

Italians
7 Inf corps
3 Mot Corps

Minors
17 inf Corps .. Hun,Rum,Fin,Bul.
3 Mot Corps
1 Rum Ftr

I have captured Odesssa .. Brest Litovisk ... Riga ... Minsk ..
Kiev will fall next turn ... and then I expect Denopropovosk in 2 turns ..
I went in in Early July 1941 ...

What scenario are you playing and what balance level?

1939 vs Yohan ... A decent player .. not his fault the Original USSR OOB ..
I conquered
Poland .. Denmark .. Holland .. Belguim .. France .. Yugo .. Norway .. in that order ..
I am still fighting in N Afr ..
I have a Ger Cv on board ... and thats about it for naval units ..
Italians are done .. so I am building Inf and Mot ..
I have some labs .. but no upgrades yet ..
