Updating from original CD

Post by iley »

I have been trying to update to 1.806 from the original CD I received 2004. I have tried this several times. I load the CD into a new file then go to the official updates found here transferred them to that file and when completed I have a game that says it is version 1.806. All in good sounds nice but it does not have the ability to add individual aircraft to a squadron. Can somebody give me an idea of what I'm doing wrong.

usual procedure is:

1. Load the files from CD (intstall) - not sure what version yours installs to... but assuming it is before 1.804 go to 2...
2. Get 1.804 comprehensive upgrade - install
3. Get 1.806 revised upgrade (NOT the hotfix)
4. install

good luck

Thank you for your response. My CD is V 1.00. I installed it then installed .04 comprehensive. Still do not have the ability to add individual aircraft to a squadron. Does 1.804 completely up date version 1. Could it be that I must update version 1 to a later upgrade before upgrading to 1.804?

There is also no player defined upgrade option.

No - i went the same route - make sure you are installing the 1.804 COMPREHENSIVE patch.

i think there is a 1.804 Incremental patch as well - be sure you download the correct one. The comprehensive patch is much longer (of course).

You can (and should) be able to jump directly from 1.00 to 1.804 - as long as you use the comprehensive patch.

If something has gone wrong - i'd recommend you remove the program and start from scratch. [:(]

BTW - the player defined upgrades are only available at the very beginning - i don't think you can change them once the game options have already been selected.

Also, to clarify, in order to add aircraft, you have to have your squadrons at a base with suffienct supplies (at least 20,000 tons). If you don't have the supplies you will not be able to add aircraft no matter what version you run. (Sometimes you will be able to add aircraft if you are within transfer range of the supplied base)..

An update on my progress not to be confused with success. Player defined upgrades was not showing on the main opening menu. Went from version 1.00 to comprehensive 1.804 upgrade still no player defined upgrades or ability to add a aircraft individual squadrons. ( Really appreciate your input but the option that states "draw one aircraft from pool" is not showing ) searched my hard drive and found an update not listed on this site that predates comprehensive 1.804. Installed that then comprehensive 1.804 now I have player defined upgrade listed on the main menu. That was the success part. But still not showing under any conditions "draw one aircraft from pool". At this point I'm just considering buying a new copy of the game.

Hmmmm... let's check a few things before you do that...

Tell me what scen., mod, side, etc. you are playing and send me a turn and maybe i can look at it and figure out what is going on.

Is this an upgrade of a prior game in progress, or a new game?

Be sure to send a password (if it is needed.) Send details of where and what you are trying to upgrade. A prefinalized turn is needed (i.e. - a turn that you have not yet hit the "end turn" button.

send turn to rtrapasso @ gmail.com (no spaces - they are just put in to fool spambots...)

If that doesn't show me what is going on, i might need you to send me your "War In The Pacific.exe" file to see if i can duplicate the problem.

Thank you for your offer. I may have discovered the problem. My computer is blocking parts of the program it considers a security issue. Using my limited skills I'll see if I can work my way around this. Any suggestions are more than appreciated.

Update on progress although success still eludes me. I am running windows XP reasonably sure at this point the system is blocking some files. Everything is working as it should accept ( "draw one aircraft from pool" ). Can someone tell me what update added that feature. Have lowered my security settings ( would turn them off but not comfortable with that ) and got this for. It's okay to use very simple terms I am no computer expert and am very comfortable with saying that.

i think the feature got added around 1.6 - if you check your WITP folder, there is something in there called WhatsNew.txt or WhatsNew v1.8.0.4

if you read/search through that file you can (probably) find exactly when the feature was added.

Help:[:)]

would anyone happen to have a copy of the 1.6 update that they could send me. The only way I seem to be able to update the game is one step at a time. I have everything but 1.6 and 1.7 series of updates. Other than that the game works perfectly.
