Noob qn - captured objectives

Battlefront features the power of battalion-level combat in some of this period's most bloody and intense conflicts: Saipan, Market Garden, Novorossisk, and Gazala. Players will have realistic control over their soldiers, with a tactical scale just large enough to make a telling difference in the strategic picture.

Noob qn - captured objectives

Post by RBG »

Greetings all,

Only been playing BF for a couple of days, so forgive me if the answer is obvious!

In the Saipan scenario, my troops (US) have captured the southern half of the island, but when I right-click
on one of the towns captured:
(a) the Japanese flag is still flying in the tactical screen (I've held the objective for more than 1 turn).
(b) I do not appear to be accruing Victory Points even though I've overrun the objective?

Slightly confused.

:)

The US moves first and the Japanese move second.  The Japanese have a turne to recapture the hex.

Only after the Japanese turn does the ownership flag turn to US and the points start to accrue.

Sorry - ignore my previous post.

When I right click on Aslito, for example, the pop up box says owned 6 but points 0.

Once I figure out how to take a screenshot I'll post it so you can see what I mean.

Thx

When you right click on Aslito, move the curser over the two victory hex symbols at the bottom of the screen.  VPs are awarded to each side independently.   In your example, Aslito will provide victory points (VPs) to the Japanese player, but not to the American player.

When you look at Japanese VP conditions you see they receive 10 pts per turn... every turn starting at turn 3.

When you look at the American side, there are no VPs for the American side at that particular location.

Aha!!!! (Again!)
Thanks for pointing that out.
Last time I played one of these games was Korsun Pocket a couple of years ago.
I assumed the towns were the objectives - but they're not!!!!

Very much enjoying the game.
Decided to play a game (Saipan scen) as the Japanese to see what that was like . . .

. . . it was a very quick game (and not in a good way [:)])!

Thanks for the help.

Howard7x - I'll play a bit more first against the AI (otherwise I fear my PBEM games will be disappointingly short for my opponent!)

Cheers!

RBG, you'd be surprised how much you learn from a human opponent during a PBEM game. While Battlefront's AI is no slouch, PBEM helps with the learning curve and opens your eyes to different strategies. Like yourself, I'm new to BF (DB series in general) and while I don't provide a challenge at this stage, it hasn't stopped me from enjoying PBEM encounters. I say jump in with both feet, soldier! ;)
