totally impressed

Post by 1275psi »

Well Im one of those zoobs who hardly knows what a file is, let alone what .bat means, so modding was never going to be for me.

However, with Wobbly guiding me step by step through the (for me incredibly painful and perplexing process -unzip? what the hell is unzip?) I am now about to start a CHS game on Mr browns? extended map

I am absolutely stunned at the effort put into these mods, and how great the game looks, Im intensly excited just looking at the map and new plane art.

Now, hopefully it will all work this weekend!
This is just a very, very big appreciation to all the guys who are in this modding world.

If Matrix sold this mod as a WITP Mk2, Id more than willingly pay the 100 plus for it (just to avoid the downloading stuff!)

Well done, and thankyou all.

I agree. CHS made a great game a spectacular one. The effort that went into it is truely astonishing. Then when you realize it the makers were unpaid, it is even more astonishing. The only person I know that doesn't like CHS is my wife[:D]

I also concur with the above. CHS, Big B, Nik mods and Treespiders mod are good and one can only wonder how much time and effort went into it.

Naturally there are other mods... mainly I guess RHS... but it seems that it will never "freeze" and with constant updates + complicated install process has put me off from the whole thing. Not meaning though that RHS is not worth to give it a try.

Anyway, thanks to all modders around the globe.. great work.

Actually, the basic 18 scenarios of RHS were supposed to freeze about yesterday, and will as soon as Cobra updates the final Axis plane art filmstrip!

Disclaimer: the "freezing" is for extensive human testing and it is to be expected we will do an update many moons from now. Further, we might add seasonal maps - which could be used by any game in progress - or other scenarios - notably for those who like to do AI as Japan (AI as Allies is not possible in any form of WITP - the code cannot handle it - so we won't try for it). There is also supposed to be an update to the basic game that involves off map movement: that would require a revision of Level 7. [Level 6 will not be updated regardless and Level 5 will work fine with the upgrade]

Additional Disclaimer: If anything is busted, we will fix it with an update - aber naturlich.

We do need an installer - but there is supposed to be automated install software available - and we may settle for referring to some of it on the RHS site. The manual is being rewritten with a view to helping address this and a few other items that were not clear (by Mifune - who did all editions of the Manual). Once Andrew said he might expand the CHS installer to include an RHS option - and it may be some day someone will do a dedicated installer - but so far no one has taken the time.

The one thing you have right is the time to do this sort of thing. And it is writ large for RHS - which is six different mods in three different flavors (oriented to three different levels of map development). It would not even be possible except that Cobra is the fastest artest in the universe. He has even applied RHS mapping art to CHS for those who want it.

Finally - note that RHS Level 5 and CHS are map compatable - permitting use of RHS pwhex with CHS or CHS pwhex with RHS - in case you prefer one combination or the other for technical reasons (e.g. ferries, river navigation, name it). Provided the idea of custom installing pwhex and map art is not daunting.

Last week I quietly replaced the RHS handbook on the web site with a updated version. The version now available at the RHS web site is the one that I had been mailing privately to requests the past couple of months. It is much bigger and covers many points not covered in the original version. I am currently working on an update of which I will formally post with its release.
