Location Slots within editor

Post by JSBoomer »

I have a question for you experienced modders. How does one set a land formation up in the editor in such a way that appropriate ranked leaders are made availible during game play? I was doing some tinkering and wanted to combine the units of the 8th Australian division into one formation. When I did so only Cols were availible to command. Are certain slots for brigade and smaller sized units only?
I've also read a post recently about headquarts slots being opened up; are there specific slots for HQs? If so had anyone made a list of what slots can be used for which type of units as has been done for the ships?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

J Boomer,

The Editor Manual list most of the slot restrictions. It should be in the WitP\Manuals folder.

Here is the Locations part of a FAQ I've been using:

Certain Locations must be left in their assigned slots as follows:
- Japanese HQ’s must be located in slots 1-98 = 98 HQs (8 Command HQs) - recommend slot 0001 not be used (97 slots)
- Allied HQ’s must be located in slots 100-215 = 116 HQs (13 Command HQs)
- Bases must be located in slots 217-900. Do not move any Base to a different slot as some parts of the game program
assume these bases are in their current slots = 684 bases
- Japanese ground units must be located in slots 979-1999 = 1,021 - 40 (Japanese Militia) - 4 (Japanese North Vietnamese     militia) = 977 LCUs total.
- Slots 1940-1979 must be left open as these are the slots used by Japanese Militia ground units that are automatically
    mobilised in 1945.
- Slots 1980-1983 must be left open as these are the slots used by Japanese North Vietnamese militia units that are
mobilized each time (up to a maximum of four) an Allied unit moves into a border hex inside North Vietnam (from China     to Hue).
- Allied ground units must be located in slots 2120-3499 = 1380 LCUs
- Japanese TO&E’s must be located in slots 901-977 = 77 TO&Es
- Allied TO&E’s must be located in slots 2001-2119 = 119 TO&Es
- Japanese TF’s must be located in slots 3500-3749 = 250 TFs
- Allied TF’s must be located in slots 3750-3999 = 250 TFs
These devices can be altered, but they should never be moved.

HQ slots were opened up in RHS because we got rid of numbers of Chinese HQ which were duplicated. The so called "army" HQ were really the same as the "corps". RHS goes directly from War Area HQ to army(corps) HQ - with no intermediate layer. This freed up many slots which won't be available if you don't use the same system.
