Lack of convoys

Commander – Europe at War Gold is the first in a series of high level turn based strategy games. The first game spans WW2, allowing players to control the axis or allied forces through the entire war in the European Theatre.

Lack of convoys

Post by Dave Ferguson »

the number of convoys starting every 4 turns is variable, in one game I am playing there have only been TWO convoys starting up to summer 1940, resulting in a critical shortage of pp for the UK when they need them most.

Apparently the size of the convoy is random and if less than 16pp? the convoy is not deployed.

If this happens to you it might be a good idea to start again.

Why is the lower limit for convoy size less than 16? It adds a unrealistic chance effect for UK pp in the early war.

We decided that convoys would always be at leist value 10 avoiding silly convoys. But since a corps cost 35 missing a few of those should not mean much. Just like with tech and battles, you can get lucky but it should even out when you play longer :)

missing a few of those certainly means a lot if you get only TWO convoys generated by summer 1940. Plus unless you are storing the number of convoys generated or have a off map pool of pp awaiting a convoy the laws of probability dictate that what happened in the past has no effect on what will happen in the future.

To put it another way, if a convoy is not generated do the 'lost' pp cause later convoys to contain more pp?

If so better to have your random generator set to a minimum number of 10.

Also the convoy size is always larger in the north which makes it easier for the u-boats?

A u-boat detecting a convoy was a matter of chance, a little known fact but one which has a significant effect on the battle of the atlantic. the allies increased the size of each convoy which gave more escorts per convoy and reduced the chance of a wolfpack sighting any individual one. this transformed the battle in the allies favour.

The U-Boats are toast if they attack in the north. U-boats are way to easy to sink.
Favoritism is alive and well here.

U-boats are very vulnerable when they have been spotted .. [:'(]
See I'm smart I know whats going on ... [X(]
May I play pls .. At least comment .. breifly ..
If U-boats .. singly or Wolf pack would like to help the Allies out in this situation .. OK ..
Never want you on my Team .. [:-]

A 54 strength "Conv" is exactly that a 54 Conv .. means they have some pointy units ..
How far do you think you will get with a unit that has effeciency and some would say integrity .. counetrattack abilities .. No Escorts .. Great ..[8|]

Depends .. you want a bunch of 3 strength convoys .. 3 PP's .. Search the Ocean fer ya .. and bring down the U-boats in how long .. Its not like you dont C the OOB at Sept 1st 1939 ..
Was that my Outloud voice .. Oh Dear ..[8|]

I find the UBoats to be just about right.  Some players have kicked my butt with UBoats.  Some dont ever seem to have any out there.

I think it takes some skill to properly use the UBoats.  I know I am still learning.

Cant we just get along.

This thread is not about u-boats, it is about convoys and how they are generated.

I thought this was about Production .. and the convoys the allies receive ..
And the pointy units that can effect this .. I would or probably should say affect this ..
Never quite sure .. [X(]
Don't go north as twotribe says .. you r in for a world of hurt .. [;)]

Playing Major Vasectomy right now . I call him that because thats whats gonna happen to him .. .. As soon as I can get my shit together ..

I have never seen so much fleet in 1 area .. At last count OOB was ..
2 UK CV .. 2 UK BB .. I also sunk a UK BB that somehow eneded up in the Hague ..
2 Fr BB .. Fr Ftr in UK by London ..
When my 2 U-boat went into N Atl .. I saw destroyer .. I even think a UK sub was around .. But ..

I think its pure bad luck or whatever that UK only generated 2 convoys til Summer 40 ..
I find this vague and hard to believe .. Ire in Shock .. [X(]
They must have been huge .. If they were its the same ... timetable may not be to your liking .. PP are still there ..

The UK BB ended up in the Hague because I was tring to do my turn during "cocktail hour"

Of course it did take you 3 months to take out Holland, Looking more like a Major Victory to me!
